Required Skills

Must Have

  • Strong Linux system administration skills, preferably with CentOS and AlmaLinux, including monitoring production systems, troubleshooting, escalation, and administering multiple servers.
  • Proven experience deploying applications to staging and production environments with minimal downtime, and maintaining/updating deployment procedures.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with development and QA teams.
  • Practical knowledge of infrastructure as code and configuration management using Ansible and Puppet, for provisioning new servers and updating existing infrastructure.
  • Strong skills configuring and maintaining LEMP (Linux, Nginx, MySQL, PHP) and MERN (MongoDB, Node.js) stacks in high-availability environments.
  • Experience managing high-traffic, load-balanced systems using NGINX (web serving, load balancing, reverse proxying), and caching mechanisms.
  • Experience with Memcached/Redis configuration and optimization.
  • Strong understanding of web technologies including caching, proxying, content distribution, WebSockets, load balancing, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Zabbix, Grafana, and ELK.
  • Understanding of backup and disaster recovery concepts and best practices.
  • Experience with version control tools (Git/GitHub).
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to resolve production issues with minimal client impact, and to perform updates, patches, and maintenance across production and pre-production environments.

Scope of Work

The Linux/Web System Administrator will manage our Linux Server estate, help with changes to Nginx, contribute to managing our CDNs, Certificates, and DNS, manage some WordPress sites, and deploy Website and Web app changes. We have quite complex routing for our regional sites, so the ability to troubleshoot connectivity and routing issues would be helpful. If they can do more than this, such as being able to run our Windows deployment tools or follow SOPs to troubleshoot and restart a wider range of systems (including Windows Services/IIS), that would be perfect – but those are not core requirements.

  • Manage Linux Server estate.
  • Help with changes to Nginx.
  • Contribute to managing CDNs, Certificates, and DNS.
  • Manage WordPress sites.
  • Deploy Website and Web app changes.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity and routing issues.
  • Run Windows deployment tools.
  • Follow SOPs to troubleshoot and restart systems.
