Responsibilities

The Vulnerability Security Patch Management team seeks a Senior IT Systems Engineer to plan, design, and implement Server and Endpoint vulnerability remediation solutions with minimal direction. This results-oriented, multi-disciplined role leads SWAT campaigns to enhance and govern Mayo Clinic's vulnerability remediation practices. Collaboration across IT Infrastructure, IT Application Support, and Risk is essential for maintaining a safe, compliant, and resilient environment.

Key Duties:

  • Plan, design, and implement Server and Endpoint vulnerability remediation solutions.
  • Lead SWAT vulnerability remediation campaigns, including development, testing, troubleshooting, and support.
  • Collect and analyze information to identify vulnerabilities and potential exploitation risks.
  • Align technical solutions and OIS goals with business requirements across IT.
  • Collaborate with endpoint, application, and IT infrastructure teams to achieve OIS vulnerability remediation goals.
  • Establish timelines and delivery capabilities that meet business needs.
  • Maintain and support moderately complex systems software and hardware computer systems across multiple Mayo Clinic sites.
  • Actively monitor and respond to technical hardware and software issues using testing tools and techniques.
  • Assist in managing overall system capacity.
  • Interface with vendor support or external teams for proper escalation during outages or performance degradation.
  • Contribute to the selection, implementation, and maintenance of custom and purchased system software, and configure/support hardware systems.
  • Evaluate new products/technologies, determine impact on existing configurations, and assist with cost/benefit analysis and feasibility studies.
  • Produce and maintain essential documentation (systems requirements, designs, resource inventories, plans).
  • Maintain proficiency in the latest trends, best practices in IT systems engineering, Vulnerability Response, and cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Identify areas for improvement or enhancements.

This role requires demonstrated ability to take responsibility and accountability with little direct supervision, multi-tasking, and effective interaction across multiple sites. Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English are mandatory. Occasional weekends, evening coverage, and participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation are required.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of demonstrated technical experience; OR
  • Associate degree plus 5 years of demonstrated technical experience; OR
  • High school diploma and 7 years of demonstrated IT technical experience focused on managing operating systems, including configuration, internals, and maintenance processes in a large, complex organization.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience managing operating systems, including configuration, internals, and maintenance processes.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills using English.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows and/or Red Hat Linux systems and configurations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in healthcare technology.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant IT certifications (e.g., MCSE, CCNA).
  • Knowledge of system design principles, software development methodologies, project management methodologies, and computer programming/system support experience.
  • Experience managing custom developed and vendor-supplied applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of automating solutions with MECM and Ansible.
  • Advanced knowledge of implementing solutions using GPO and AD.
  • Knowledge of certificate vulnerability remediation.
  • Knowledge of ServiceNow reporting.
  • Knowledge of Rapid7, Prisma, and/or Veracode system scanning.
  • Knowledge of Container architecture.

Preferred Working Knowledge of:

  • Client/Server application architecture and Clustering.
  • VB and scripting tools.
  • Databases: MS SQL Server, Oracle, My SQL, DB2, or Sybase.
  • Web Architecture: HTML, JavaScript, Active Server Pages (ASP), PHP.
  • Network topologies and protocols (e.g., IEEE 802.3, 802.11a/b/g, 802.1x, TCP/IP).
  • Storage environments: SAN, NAS, virtualized storage.
  • System hardware design, ordering, configuration, testing, and implementation of large projects.

Compensation and Logistics

  • Compensation: $100,339 - $140,462 per year (Exempt, Benefits Eligible).
  • Schedule: Full Time (80 hours/pay period), primarily Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Location: 100% remote within the United States. Occasional monthly onsite presence may be requested for IT Culture and Connect activities.
  • On-Call: Participation in 24x7 on-call rotation required.
  • Visa Status: Not eligible for sponsorship or F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
