Senior Full Stack PHP Engineer (Remote)

We are hiring a Senior Full Stack PHP Engineer to take ownership of a mature, production e-learning platform serving users across all 50 US states. This remote role requires an experienced engineer comfortable working independently to maintain, evolve, and modernize a legacy PHP application while delivering new features end-to-end.

The successful candidate will manage the full software lifecycle, encompassing backend development, frontend implementation, database design, system integration, and production support. This hands-on position offers significant autonomy, demanding strong technical judgment and the ability to balance system stability with necessary modernization efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain a large, existing PHP application built on an MVC framework.
  • Design, develop, and deploy full-stack features, covering backend logic, database changes, and frontend UI implementation.
  • Implement and maintain complex business rules, including multi-state compliance requirements.
  • Optimize and manage MySQL/MariaDB databases, focusing on schema design and performance tuning.
  • Integrate and maintain third-party services (e.g., payment gateways, cloud services, external APIs).
  • Ensure application security, data integrity, and adherence to best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across the full stack.
  • Manage deployments, environment configuration, and basic server administration tasks.
  • Write clear technical documentation and maintain high code quality standards.
  • Collaborate with non-technical stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Contribute to long-term modernization efforts, including PHP version upgrades and framework improvements.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
