The Build & Grow Developer Relations Team empowers our most strategic customers to effectively utilize MongoDB technology. This team acts as a crucial point of contact within these accounts, collaborating with developers and key internal MongoDB stakeholders (e.g., Sales, Marketing) to drive the adoption of MongoDB solutions. We are actively seeking a Senior Developer Advocate to join our team and champion developer enablement.
Our mission is to inspire new and potential MongoDB developers within these accounts, guide them through their MongoDB journey, and lead them in designing new or replatformed workloads. Our team enhances developers' effective use of MongoDB and accelerates their proficiency with the platform. You will join a team of highly experienced engineers, hosting virtual and in-person engagements with customers globally. Our Developer Relations teams are globally distributed, with a majority working remotely. This is a UK / Europe-based role, primarily engaging with customers in the region. This position can be based remotely in the Ireland region.
Candidate Profile
As a Senior Developer Advocate, you are a proficient developer ready to mentor, guide, and lead development teams in solving their enterprise's most critical data challenges. You are familiar with MongoDB or other data technologies and can quickly become proficient in MongoDB. You possess insight into developer enablement programs and can guide development teams in adopting new technologies.
You are an excellent public speaker, comfortable delivering live enablement sessions to technical audiences of up to 400 or more. Your recent experience includes directly enabling developers and architects to overcome data-related challenges, guiding them toward solutions for real-world performance and scalability issues. Additionally, experience in soft leadership with organizational decision-makers for defining, adopting, and scaling data-related technologies is a bonus.
Combining software engineering, solutions development, consulting experience, and developer relations expertise, you have a deep understanding of developer ecosystems and how developers best achieve fluency in new technologies. You possess solid working knowledge of databases, database performance, schema design, and optimizing production applications at scale. You employ a well-developed consulting methodology, allowing you to quickly triage situations, identify critical issues, and address them efficiently. Furthermore, you excel at explaining complex technical concepts simply and naturally connect and communicate with developers of various skill levels.
Collaboration and empowerment are central to this team's work style. You will work closely with team members to create and refine content, deliver events, and share insights, techniques, and best practices with the broader MongoDB team and developer community. Your focus extends beyond individual success to the success of the entire team, aligning with MongoDB's value of "Building Together."
Position Expectations
- Become a Subject Matter Expert in document schema design.
- Develop a deep understanding of core MongoDB database functionality and Atlas features such as Search, Vector Search, Data Federation, Online Archive, and Streaming.
- Deliver Design Review sessions to customer development teams, guiding their design and use of MongoDB document schemas for specific workloads.
- Communicate insights from developer engagement, through code and content, to inform team members and enable other developers.
- Deliver virtual and in-person developer enablement sessions to audiences of up to 400 developers.
- Create language-specific or other content in your area of expertise to evangelize and educate various developer communities.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in both customer-facing and developer-centric roles such as Consulting, Solutions Architecture, or Developer Relations, specifically working with development teams on document schema design and high-performance, scalable database implementations.
- At least 3 years of experience (or equivalent) consulting with development teams as an external expert.
- Proficiency with at least one of the most popular customer languages (Java, Python, Javascript).
- Familiarity with 2 or more of the popular customer languages (Java, Python, Javascript or Typescript, C#, Rust, PHP).
- Experience creating effective developer-focused code and content.
- Strong presentation skills, including experience with live streams or public speaking at events.
- Written and spoken English language proficiency.
- Ability and willingness to travel (up to 50%) primarily within the UK and Europe, with some travel to India / Asia.
