About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Integration Team at Betr, a fast-growing company in the sports betting and daily fantasy sports (DFS) sector. This team is crucial to our platform, managing critical data pipelines, ingesting odds feeds from multiple providers, and ensuring seamless system integration. You will take ownership of significant technical domains, utilizing cutting-edge sports betting technology to solve complex distributed systems challenges at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

• Sports Feed Data Integration: Own the integration process with external sports feed data providers.
• Build and maintain WebSocket clients for real-time odds and event data streaming.
• Ingest and normalize data from REST APIs and streaming feeds.
• Handle complex data mapping across providers (teams, players, events, markets).
• Troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues and discrepancies across various feeds.

Kafka & Data Pipeline Management:

• Design and maintain Kafka topics, consumer/producer architecture, and streaming solutions.
• Monitor and troubleshoot consumer lag issues to ensure performance.
• Optimize message processing for high-volume, real-time data streams.
• Manage data flow between microservices (ITC SBK Picks).
• Utilize Redis for caching strategies and performance optimization.

Market Management System (MMS):

• Maintain and extend the core Market Management System.
• Develop internal tools for product operations (e.g., Retool dashboards).
• Implement accurate market settlement logic.
• Manage market limits and configuration settings.
• Support live market suspension and unsuspension logic.

Platform Reliability & Performance:

• Ensure 99.9% uptime for critical data pipelines.
• Optimize application stability and memory consumption.
• Implement monitoring and observability solutions (e.g., Datadog).
• Debug production issues within complex distributed systems.
• Participate actively in the on-call rotation schedule.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience working with production systems.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin or Java (Kotlin is primarily used).
• Deep understanding of Kafka (topics, consumers, producers, streaming).
• Proven experience with distributed systems and event-driven architecture.
• Expertise in SQL and database optimization (Mysql, PostgreSQL).
• Ability to debug complex issues spanning multiple services.
• Excellent communication skills for effective cross-team collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):

• Experience with PHP (supporting legacy systems).
• Prior WebSocket implementation experience.
• Experience using Redis for caching at scale.
• Background in real-time data processing and normalization.
• Familiarity with Vert.x or similar reactive frameworks.
• Experience in the sports betting or gaming industry.
• DevOps/infrastructure experience (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with RabbitMQ.
• Familiarity with Retool or similar internal tooling platforms.
