Senior AI-native Fullstack Engineer/ 1 hour ago
Quick Summary
As a Senior Fullstack Engineer on one of our new AI-native squads, you will own entire features from database to UI. Our technology stack runs on AWS, utilizing PHP/Laravel and Node.js/NestJS for backend services, and React with TypeScript on the frontend. You will be expected to leverage AI coding assistants, automated testing tools, and generative AI workflows as core parts of your daily process.
What You Will Be Responsible For:
- Own and deliver features end-to-end across the full stack, including backend services, APIs, frontend interfaces, and data layers.
- Design, build, and operate production systems within the payroll domain, ensuring correctness and reliability.
- Utilize AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as a daily force multiplier for writing, reviewing, and refactoring code.
- Write and maintain automated tests with AI-assisted generation, aiming for high coverage with minimal manual effort.
- Participate in lean team rituals: async-first communication, lightweight code reviews, and continuous deployment.
- Collaborate closely with product and design in a small squad to scope, estimate, and prioritize work.
- Contribute to defining and evolving our AI-augmented engineering practices and toolchain.
- Take shared ownership of operational concerns: monitoring, alerting, incident response, and on-call rotations.
What We Are Looking For
Must-haves:
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant exposure to both backend (PHP or Node.js) and frontend (React/TypeScript) development.
- Strong proficiency in our core stack: PHP/Laravel and/or Node.js/NestJS on the backend, React with TypeScript on the frontend.
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure, relational databases, and API design (REST or GraphQL).
- Demonstrated comfort with AI-assisted development workflows; you regularly use AI tools and can articulate their impact on your process.
- Strong fundamentals in testing: understanding when to write unit tests, integration tests, or leverage AI-generated test suites.
- Excellent async written communication: documenting decisions, writing clear PRs, and driving alignment without excessive meetings.
- Ownership mindset: proactively addressing migrations, flaky tests, or runbook updates.
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience in payroll, HR tech, or fintech domains where precision and compliance are critical.
- Familiarity with prompt engineering, AI agent frameworks, or building LLM-powered features into products.
- Experience migrating or integrating between PHP/Laravel and Node.js/NestJS services.
- Experience working in small, high-autonomy teams (startups, platform teams, or similar).
- Background in QA or testing automation, understanding quality from first principles.
- Contributions to developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines, or internal platform improvements.
Why This Role Is Different
We are not merely adding "AI" to a job title for marketing. We are restructuring our entire engineering organization around a core thesis: small teams of strong fullstack engineers, deeply integrated with AI tools, can outperform larger traditional teams in speed, quality, and developer satisfaction.
What this means in practice:
- You will not hand off work to a separate QA team; you own quality, aided by AI-powered testing and code review.
- You will not wait on a backend engineer to build your API; you build the entire feature.
- You will have real input into the tools and workflows the team adopts; this transformation is built collaboratively.
- You will work in a team of 2–3, not 5+, leading to less coordination overhead and more building time.
