Join Meta's Integrity Investigations, Intelligence, and Events (i3E) team dedicated to protecting users across our family of applications (including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus) from diverse threats. We seek a skilled security engineer to focus on investigating sophisticated threat actors, advancing investigative methodologies, and maturing team processes through automation, tooling, and AI integration.
This role drives innovative approaches to protecting people from offline harm and leads cross-functional efforts to find scalable solutions against coordinated adversarial threats. You will tackle some of the most challenging, complicated, and high-visibility risks facing the company.
Security Engineer Investigator, i3E Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of the team’s long-term strategy, focusing on improving tactics, threat discoverability, and investigative efficiencies.
- Proactively hunt for threats and undetected abuse using internal data, open-source intelligence (OSINT), and third-party private intelligence.
- Investigate complex cases to understand abuse mechanisms and implement enforcement strategies to mitigate or detect harm.
- Engage cross-functionally to develop shared taxonomy, implement effective strategies for preventing and disrupting abuse at scale, and represent i3E across the problem space.
- Identify opportunities to automate investigative tooling and tradecraft.
- Collaborate with others to ensure successful implementation beyond the immediate team.
- Analyze and interpret large datasets to advance investigations, quantify trends, and support findings.
- Note: This role involves exposure to graphic and/or objectionable content including but not limited to graphic images, videos and writings, offensive or derogatory language, and other potential objectionable material, i.e. child exploitation, graphic violence, self-injury, animal abuse, and other content which may be considered offensive or disturbing.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of work experience in cyber security, private sector security investigations and intelligence, government, and/or intelligence.
- 5+ years of experience working with Python, PHP, or similar scripting languages.
- 2+ years experience as a technical lead or team lead in an adversarial and/or investigative space, including experience driving team strategic direction.
- Proven experience conducting large-scale data analysis and utilizing big data tools such as Maltego, Palantir, Tableau, etc.
- Proven track record of success in communication and presenting technical findings.
- Experience investigating and acting on high-impact threats.
- Experience prioritizing and executing with minimal direction or oversight.
- Experience in fast-paced environments where priorities shift and change.
- A combination of investigative skills and engineering skills.
- Experience working with a team spanning multiple locations/time zones.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Subject matter expertise in investigating cyber security threats related to criminal organizations and/or narcotics trafficking.

Compensation: $184,000/year to $257,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
