Job Description

This is a remote position.

While the ability to build software is increasingly common, augmented by AI, what remains rare is sound judgment—understanding customer problems, making informed decisions, and identifying where to create genuine value.

The Role

At Profitroom, we develop hospitality software utilized by thousands of hotels and millions of guests. Product Engineers take ownership of technical initiatives from end-to-end: encompassing technical discovery, solution design, implementation, testing, release, and ensuring production readiness. While the Product Manager defines the "what" and "why," you will own the "how" and the technical solution.

This is a full-stack Product Engineer role with a significant frontend focus. Your primary technical domain will be the frontend, including user journeys, component architecture, interaction design, and UX quality. You will also engage with the backend when practical, leveraging AI, established patterns, and your experience—for instance, in connecting APIs, implementing business logic, or building integrations.

We distinguish between frontend development and product engineering. Frontend without product judgment is mere implementation; product judgment without frontend craft results in wireframes. We seek candidates who possess both, along with the full-stack capability to deliver a feature comprehensively without extensive hand-offs.

Our philosophy is "The builder drives; the PM steers," which defines the Product Engineer role—more than just a title, it's a collaborative way of working.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Full-stack delivery of user-facing features, including both frontend and backend components, designed, built, tested, and shipped by you.
  • Technical discovery: collaborating with the Product Manager to validate feasibility, identify constraints, and shape the technical approach before scope finalization.
  • End-to-end quality assurance: ensuring the user experience functions effectively in production, not just passing review.
  • AI-augmented development: utilizing Claude Code as a daily driver, with MCP servers, custom agents, and internal tooling integrated into the workflow.
  • Close collaboration with Product Managers and backend engineers: you own the "how," while the PM owns the "what" and "why."
  • UX coherence: identifying and addressing recurring UI issues to continuously improve the product.

Tech Stack

Full-stack, TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Node.js, Claude Code, MCP servers, AI agents, REST API, Docker, GitLab CI/CD, PHP, Laravel, MySQL / MariaDB, MongoDB, Redis, Microservices, Kubernetes.

Requirements

Technical Expectations

  • TypeScript & JavaScript: Strong commercial experience; deep understanding of the language beyond just frameworks.
  • React (or equivalent): Expertise in component architecture, state management, and performance; proven experience building real products.
  • UX Sensibility: Ability to identify UI issues before user complaints; a strong commitment to interaction quality.
  • Full-stack Reach (Node.js / Backend Comfort): Capability to connect APIs and write business logic using established patterns; full-stack delivery is a significant part of the role.
  • AI Tooling: Hands-on experience with Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools; experience generating backend integrations with AI is a strong plus.
  • Communicative Polish and English: Ability to collaborate effectively with Product Managers, QA specialists, and backend engineers.

You'll Thrive Here If:

  • You have shipped user-facing features that real people used, and you understand what broke and why.
  • You notice UI details that most engineers overlook, and you are motivated to correct them.
  • You are curious about the business rationale behind a feature before commencing development.
  • Owning a feature end-to-end—from initial discussions with the PM to production deployment—feels like a natural workflow.
  • AI tools are a natural extension of your work, enabling you to extend beyond frontend boundaries into full-stack tasks when necessary.
  • You care about user experience on slow connections, with keyboard navigation, and on non-standard screen sizes.
  • You can contribute to decisions on feature value without needing to be the final product decision-maker.

Bonus Points:

  • You have a side project that you built, shipped, and perhaps use yourself.
  • You utilize AI tools independently, not solely when provided by your employer.
  • You have worked with or contributed to a design system or component library.
  • You have built Node.js services or backend integrations beyond basic CRUD endpoints.

Probably Not For You If:

  • Your definition of "done" is a Figma-accurate implementation, irrespective of its actual user functionality.
  • Backend development is strictly someone else's responsibility, representing a firm boundary for you.
  • Your hands-on AI experience is primarily limited to autocomplete and occasional PR summaries.
