About Experiential Squared (E2)

Experiential Squared (E2) is pioneering the future of fractional ownership across sports and entertainment. Our flagship platform, MyRacehorse (MRH), is the world's largest fractional thoroughbred ownership platform, boasting over 100,000 passionate owners and achieving more than 200 race wins, including the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Breeders’ Cup Classic.

We are currently scaling beyond horse racing, focusing on elevating the MRH platform by enhancing community tools, integrating deep data insights (speed figures, pedigree analysis, race replays), launching a secondary market, and modernizing our entire technology stack. We seek a technical cornerstone—a Principal Staff Software Engineer—to take deep ownership of this platform evolution.

The Role – Own Our Technical Foundation

This is a senior technical individual contributor role, not a management position. As our first Staff/Principal Software Engineer, you will be the most senior technical expert, responsible for architectural decisions, code quality, and the overall health of our platform. You will function as a master builder, dedicating the majority of your time to writing and architecting code, mentoring engineers, and defining the technical vision for our products.

Your Mission (Key Responsibilities):

  • Tame the Legacy: Own the strategy for refactoring and modernizing our legacy codebase. Identify architectural debt, design pragmatic solutions, and write clean, scalable code to significantly improve performance and maintainability.
  • Master Backend Integration: Architect and optimize complex integrations between the frontend platform and the Magento (PHP) backend. Design robust and efficient APIs (GraphQL/REST) to ensure seamless and secure data flow.
  • Champion Security and Scalability: Implement and advocate for security best practices across the platform, ensuring compliance and meeting cyber insurance standards. Design systems built for massive scale to support our growing user base.
  • Build What's Next: Take a leading role in designing and building major new features, including our upcoming secondary marketplace and sophisticated data integration products.
  • Elevate the Team: Act as a technical mentor through thoughtful code reviews, pair programming, and creating clear technical documentation. Establish and champion engineering best practices that raise the bar for the entire team.

Who You Are (Required Qualifications):

You are a proven Senior Engineer with a track record of owning large, complex projects from concept to completion. You must possess one or more of the following core competencies:

  • Modern Frontend Expert: Deep, hands-on expertise in React and Next.js, understanding server-side rendering (SSR), static site generation (SSG), and building performant web applications.
  • Full-Stack Pragmatist: Comfortable working across the stack with a strong understanding of backend technologies (Magento & PHP experience is a significant bonus) and designing/consuming GraphQL/REST APIs.
  • Mobile-Minded: Experience building or overseeing mobile applications, ideally utilizing cross-platform tools like Capacitor, React Native, or Flutter.

Additional Skills:

  • An Architect and a Builder: Equally comfortable designing system architecture and data models as writing elegant, production-grade code.
  • Passionate About Ownership: Thrives on autonomy, taking ownership of problem spaces, and delivering outstanding results.
  • Data-Driven and AI-Savvy Thinker: Excited by unlocking value in unique user and horse data, with interest in AI-assisted development and automation.

Why Join Us?

  • Be the Technical Cornerstone: Serve as the foundational engineering leader, driving the technical direction of a rapidly growing company.
  • Massive Impact: Your work will elevate an entire industry and directly impact a huge, passionate, and engaged community.
  • Solve Hard Problems: Tackle challenging and rewarding technical problems daily, from modernizing a legacy stack to building a first-of-its-kind secondary market.
  • Shape the Future: Directly influence the future of fractional ownership in horse racing, sports, and global entertainment.
