Kelsius is recruiting for an experienced PHP Developer for a legacy web application to strengthen its R&D team. You will be responsible for enhancing and maintaining various client-facing and internal web-based applications to continue to grow our market base. You will work alongside the Product Manager, the R&D team, and the Testing team, taking responsibility for the full development lifecycle of the application. Your ability to understand requirements and convert them into efficient solutions makes you an ideal self-starter candidate. Our application is built with core PHP (no full-stack frameworks), so a deep and practical understanding of vanilla PHP and custom architecture is essential and includes:

Main Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain features within a long-standing legacy PHP application.
  • Analyze, refactor, and extend existing code without introducing regressions.
  • Debug complex production issues and take full ownership of resolving them.
  • Write and optimize raw SQL queries using MySQL.
  • Follow and enforce internal development processes and standards.

The successful candidate will

  • Possess significant commercial experience with PHP and MySQL, with a minimum of 5+ years experience.
  • Demonstrate strong confidence working in plain PHP fundamentals (comfortable without a framework).
  • Exhibit strong debugging skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Have a practical understanding of web security principles.
  • Show confidence with writing and reviewing raw SQL.
  • Possess experience integrating RESTful APIs and third-party services.
  • Understand Web Fundamentals.
  • Have practical web security knowledge.
  • Be familiar with RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services.
  • Possess the ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code.
  • Be able to take ownership of work from design through to deployment.
  • Demonstrate initiative, be a self-starter, show willingness to learn and contribute.
  • Have strong organizational skills and demonstrate good attention to detail.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and be a team player.
  • Have some experience using Git (Git Basics).
  • Possess the ability to work in a fast-paced development environment and to commit to deadlines.

In addition to the requirements above, applicants with experience with Java and familiarity with jQuery and light front-end JavaScript would be desirable.

This is a remote working role with occasional visits to our head office in Gweedore/Falcarragh, Co. Donegal. Candidates must reside in Ireland and have the right to work in Ireland.
