Job Summary: Leading Data and Software Engineering Teams

The Manager of Product Engineering will lead a software and data engineering team responsible for building, operating, and enhancing Sourcewell’s core data platforms. Key technologies include SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, and Boomi.

This role involves developing and maintaining integrations and pipelines connecting these systems to enterprise applications such as Salesforce, Workday, and Cvent, as well as supporting SaaS and data products for analytics, reporting, and emerging AI-driven capabilities.

The manager will provide hands-on technical leadership, guiding day-to-day engineering work, supporting solution development, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment. Ideal candidates possess strong experience in data engineering, cloud data ecosystems, and modern AI technologies, coupled with the ability to lead and develop a multidisciplinary team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategy for a key area of responsibility within the function, ensuring integration with wider functional strategy.
  • Maintain an established set of enterprise architecture artifacts.
  • Drive advances in technologies and architectures to increase value delivered by digital capabilities and reduce the total cost of technology operations.
  • Recommend and participate in activities related to the design, development, and maintenance of digital capabilities within the enterprise architecture.
  • Design and select business-critical storage, data center, and client/server environments, ensuring solutions align with industry best practice.
  • Provide a third-line point of escalation for appropriate global infrastructure solutions.
  • Develop existing and new applications by analyzing and identifying areas for modification and improvement to meet customer requirements.
  • Take responsibility for developing and delivering a key element of the organization's data management system.
  • Explore and develop a detailed understanding of external developments or emerging issues and evaluate their potential impact.
  • Participate in the selection of external consultants or advisers for key projects, monitoring outcomes and taking remedial action where necessary.
  • Advance the organization's adoption of modern AI capabilities by guiding teams in evaluating, designing, and implementing AI-enabled product features, data-driven automation, and generative AI solutions.
  • Ensure AI initiatives align with enterprise architecture, data governance, security standards, product roadmaps, and long-term product strategy.
  • Use the formal development framework to identify team development needs, plan actions to build capabilities, and provide training or coaching in own area of expertise.
  • Explain the local action plan to support team members' understanding of goals relative to the broader business plan, mission, and vision.
  • Monitor team performance, allocate work, review completion, and take corrective action to ensure timeliness and quality.
  • Track budgets and report variances to senior colleagues.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, information systems, OR equivalent combination of post-secondary training, professional education, and related experience (four years equivalent).

Experience: Ten (10) years of experience in related roles, including:

  • At least two (2) years of demonstrated experience leading engineering work (planning technical resources, guiding design, coordinating work, mentoring engineers, or serving as a technical lead).
  • Experience contributing to system architecture, solution design, API development, or technical roadmaps in software or data engineering environments.
  • Experience using modern engineering practices and tools: Azure DevOps (ADO), Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code reviews.
  • Experience with relational or cloud-based databases and modern data platforms, including proficiency in SQL and technologies such as SQL Server, Azure SQL, data warehouses, or data lakes.
  • Experience working with or supporting solutions leveraging modern AI capabilities (automated decisioning, predictive analytics, or generative AI technologies).
  • Experience implementing or supporting integrations across enterprise SaaS systems (Salesforce, Workday, Cvent, or similar platforms) and/or experience with integration/data-movement technologies (Boomi, Azure Data Factory (ADF), SSIS, Databricks).
  • Experience with one or more modern programming languages, frameworks, or engineering stacks (e.g., C#, .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, PHP).
  • Experience collaborating with technical and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure solutions.
  • Managerial experience (13 months to 3 years) supervising and directing people and resources to achieve specific results.

Location and Employment Details

Location: Remote position, subject to telecommuting policies.

Occasional travel to Staples, MN (up to 2–3 times per year) may be required for meetings or team activities.

Status: Full time, Regular, 40 Scheduled Hours.
