Manager eCommerce Technology

REEDS Jewelers is seeking a highly skilled Magento Full Stack Architect to join our IT team. This pivotal role will lead developers through the technical evolution of our Adobe Commerce ecosystem. More than a senior development position, it is a strategic management role focused on the structural integrity, scalability, and seamless integration of our digital commerce platform.

As a Manager eCommerce Technology, you will engage in significant architectural design, visualizing complex logic before coding. In a large-scale e-commerce environment, robust documentation is crucial for system manageability.

You will serve as a transformational leader, managing and coordinating four full-time engineers, consultants, and partners. This role acts as a bridge between business requirements and technical execution, balancing complex system architecture design with high-level implementation oversight. You will also be involved in the day-to-day operations and support of the REEDS.com enterprise-wide ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

System Architecture & Design

• Application Integration Diagrams: Design and maintain high-level architecture diagrams illustrating the relationships between Magento and external systems (ERP, CRM, PIM, WMS).
• Data Flow Mapping: Create detailed Data Flow Diagrams (DFD) to visualize customer, order, and inventory data movement, ensuring data integrity and PCI compliance.
• State Machine Logic: Develop State Diagrams to define complex lifecycles, including custom order statuses, RMA processes, and multi-source inventory (MSI) reservations.

Full Stack Engineering

• Backend Mastery: Architect "upgrade-proof" PHP modules utilizing Magento service contracts, dependency injection, and optimized SQL schemas.
• Frontend Strategy: Define frontend architecture, whether optimizing the traditional Luma/Less stack or leading a transition to Headless/PWA (React/Vue).
• Performance Optimization: Implement advanced caching strategies (Varnish, Redis) and profile code to achieve sub-2-second page loads.

Documentation & Governance

• Technical Documentation: Author Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) to document the rationale behind critical technical decisions.
• Issue Resolution: Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for critical system issues and maintain a Technical Debt log for future refactoring prioritization.
• Workflow Visualization: Document developer and admin workflows, including CI/CD pipelines and automated testing protocols.

Leadership & Quality Assurance

• Code Review: Enforce strict coding standards and conduct deep-dive code reviews to prevent "core hacks" and technical sprawl.
• Mentorship: Guide senior and mid-level developers, providing clarity on architectural patterns and the "Magento Way."
• Security: Oversee the implementation of security patches and Web Application Firewalls (WAF) to mitigate risks.

Requirements

Required Technical Skills

• Core: PHP 8.x, MySQL, Magento 2.4.x (Open Source & Adobe Commerce).
• Frontend: JavaScript (Knockout.js, RequireJS), Less/Sass, and modern frameworks (React/Vue).
• Infrastructure: Linux (Ubuntu/Debian), Nginx, Redis, Varnish, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Tools: Git, Jenkins/GitHub Actions, Docker/DDEV.
• Diagramming: Proficiency in Lucidchart, Miro, Mermaid.js, Draw.io, or Visio.

Preferred Qualifications

• Adobe Certified Professional—Magento Commerce Architect.
• BSc in Computer Science or a related advanced degree.
• Minimum of 6 years of proven managerial and architectural experience.
• Experience with Avalara AvaTax, Bloomreach, PIM, Ship Station, Google, Amazon, and payment gateway integrations.
• Proven track record of managing e-commerce technology staff and platforms with $30M+ in annual revenue.
