Lead Developer (all-in-one-security)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Developer specializing in all-in-one security to join our team. Success in this role requires deep knowledge and experience in WordPress development, with a strong passion for security and demonstrable experience in this area.

This is a fully remote position with flexible hours, allowing you to choose between 32 and 40 hours per week. We require 4 hours of crossover with UK working hours daily.

Role Overview

Join a growing, ambitious team as a Web Developer with excellent PHP, JavaScript, and WordPress experience. You will play a key role in further developing one of the world’s leading WordPress security plugins: All-In-One Security: WordPress Security Plugin (aiosplugin.com). AIOS protects over 1 million websites globally, and you will help maintain its position as a dominant player in the plugin industry.

You will collaborate with a small, global team, overseeing the development and maintenance of the AIOS plugin. Your responsibilities include ensuring high standards for feature delivery and guiding other developers.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Write clean, efficient, and secure code using PHP, JavaScript, and WordPress libraries.
  • Line manage the plugin development team.
  • Ensure tasks are appropriately assigned, reviewed, and completed by the team.
  • Maintain high technical standards within the codebase.
  • Leverage senior developer expertise to guide the plugin's direction.
  • Identify priorities and resolve blockers.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for plugin-related queries.
  • Liaise with QA and Product Managers to align development with business goals.

Specific responsibilities will be discussed and agreed upon based on your experience and team fit.

Requirements

  • PHP: Experience developing within WordPress, ideally on plugin development.
  • JavaScript: Important, though a smaller part of the role.
  • Online Security: Up-to-date knowledge of the latest website security threats and issues.
  • Firewalls or related security technologies.
  • Managing other developers.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with GitHub / GitLab / Git (can be learned quickly if familiar with alternatives like SVN).

Benefits

  • Globally distributed, highly flexible team valuing autonomy and impact.
  • Freedom to manage your own time and work from anywhere (except Antarctica).
  • Option to work from our co-working space in Newport, Wales (UK-based).
  • Opportunities to connect with the team at annual WordCamp events (Europe, Asia, US).
  • Regular online connections via 1:1s, team meetings, and company updates.
  • Flexible working arrangements considered (freelance, employed, part-time, full-time, permanent, contract).

If you are ready to make a significant impact as our new Lead Developer for the AIOS Plugin and help shape the future of Team Updraft, we encourage you to apply!
