Alloprof's mission is to provide free remote academic support to all students in Quebec and their parents. Last year alone, 600,000 students across Quebec utilized Alloprof's free digital services when facing difficulties with schoolwork and lessons. We contributed to their perseverance and academic success, one problem at a time, 66 million times. Position: Lead Developer – Technical Expert

Workplace: Montreal or Quebec City office and telework

Start Date: As soon as possible

Type of Position: One-year fixed-term contract - Full-time (35 hours per week)

The Position in Detail

The successful candidate will serve as the technical expert for an established, dynamic development team. We are looking for an experienced, results-oriented individual with positive leadership qualities.

As a Lead Developer, you will report to the technology manager. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a programming specialist, implementing best practices, and overseeing team actions.
  • Analyzing requests and projects from both technical and functional perspectives.
  • Contributing to continuous codebase improvement, as well as the maintenance and security of the Web platform, while proactively identifying integration and automation opportunities.
  • Collaborating closely with agile teams by participating in various ceremonies and providing necessary development elements.
  • Applying best practices related to agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
  • Supporting and mentoring team members, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance their skills.
  • Fostering communication and collaboration among team members.
  • Serving as a liaison between the technical team and non-technical stakeholders, providing regular project progress reports.
  • Participating in the proactive identification and updating of technologies, tools, and development practices to prevent obsolescence and ensure the relevance, security, and efficiency of software solutions.
  • Conducting technological watch.
  • Engaging in any other related tasks.

In addition to the above, as a Lead Developer, you must possess:

Technical Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of scalable and robust software architecture design principles.
  • Mastery of the Node.js environment and REST API development.
  • Mastery of the JavaScript environment, specifically with Angular (ReactJS is a plus).
  • Knowledge of the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) cloud environment, including Firebase and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
  • Good knowledge of PHP.
  • Experience with SQL and non-relational database technologies (e.g., MongoDB, Redis).
  • Experience with orchestrators and containerized environments (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • An interest in security and mastery of automated testing concepts (unit, integrated, and UI).
  • Experience with version control tools, such as Git.
  • Experience in Web development within agile environments.
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence) and Google Workspace tools.
  • Knowledge of Drupal (a plus).
  • Knowledge of Unity (a plus).
  • Understanding of fundamental artificial intelligence (AI) concepts or occasional contributions to innovative projects involving generative AI.

Requirements and Other Specifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience demonstrating the ability to fulfill the position's duties.
  • Experience in Web development within agile environments.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in Web development.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with similar responsibilities (e.g., Tech Lead / Team Lead).
  • Mastery of spoken and written French.
  • Legal right to work in Canada and for Alloprof.
