You will lead the Infrastructure team responsible for the recently announced Laravel Cloud platform—a fully managed infrastructure platform optimized for Laravel and PHP, designed for developers and teams focused on shipping their next big idea. As Engineering Manager, you will guide execution, support team growth, and ensure the platform is reliable, scalable, and delightful for dependent developers.
Location: Between EU West and US East for optimal collaboration with the distributed team.
About the Role
We seek an Engineering Manager to lead the Infrastructure team, which is responsible for the foundation powering our developer-focused cloud platform. You will guide infrastructure engineers in building secure, scalable, and resilient platform components across key areas:
- Kubernetes (EKS)
- AWS
- Networking
- Storage
- Observability
- Internal infrastructure services
You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and leadership teams to deliver a platform developers appreciate, while simultaneously driving technical excellence, operational maturity, and team health.
Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and grow a distributed team of infrastructure engineers.
- Foster an engineering culture emphasizing autonomy, ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement.
- Support career development through 1:1s, goal setting, and regular feedback.
- Collaborate with leadership to shape strategy, resourcing, and roadmap for the infrastructure team.
- Ensure reliability, availability, and performance through operational excellence.
- Drive adoption of infrastructure best practices such as GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, and security.
- Partner with product to help shape and define requirements for upcoming projects.
- Communicate technical direction and priorities clearly with engineers, leadership, and stakeholders.
- Work closely with other engineering leads to ensure seamless platform experiences.

In Your First 30 Days
You will have gained a clear picture of the State of the Union of the Infrastructure team and platform. Based on this insight, you will have formed strong opinions and a concrete plan on how to best work with the team and leadership going forward.
In Your First 90 Days
You will have made a significant impact in your role. This will include having influenced and potentially restructured the team's processes, identified key pain points the team is experiencing, and communicated these clearly with all stakeholders. At this point, you will have also begun actively working on talent retention, development, and acquisition initiatives.
In Your First 12 Months
You will have taken clear, decisive ownership of the Infrastructure engineering organization. You will have successfully put clear, effective processes in place for the team to succeed. Ultimately, you will have instilled a level of professionalism that makes the team perform at an elite level without it seeming chaotic, resulting in a reliable, scalable, and delightful Laravel Cloud platform.
Requirements
- 4+ years experience leading or managing infrastructure engineering teams.
- Deep understanding of what people need to do their best work.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
- Knowledge of the operator pattern (Go).
- Strong understanding of AWS services, including:
- EKS
- VPC/networking fundamentals
- IAM and security architecture
- Experience running large-scale distributed systems with high availability.
- Strong background in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CDK, or similar).
- Strong communication and leadership skills - able to align teams, unblock engineers, and move projects forward.
