This leadership role focuses on developing people, guiding technical direction, and fostering an environment where engineers excel while tackling ambitious infrastructure challenges. You will lead the Infrastructure team responsible for the Laravel Cloud platform—a fully managed infrastructure solution optimized for Laravel and PHP developers. The Engineering Manager ensures platform reliability, scalability, and a delightful experience for dependent developers by guiding team execution and supporting growth.

Location: Between EU West and US East for optimal team collaboration.

About the Role

We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Infrastructure team, which provides the foundation for our developer-focused cloud platform. You will guide infrastructure engineers in building secure, scalable, and resilient platform components, covering:

  • Kubernetes (EKS)
  • AWS services
  • Networking
  • Storage
  • Observability
  • Internal infrastructure services

You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and leadership to deliver a platform developers value, emphasizing technical excellence, operational maturity, and team health.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a distributed team of infrastructure engineers.
  • Foster an engineering culture emphasizing autonomy, ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support career development via 1:1s, goal setting, and regular feedback.
  • Collaborate with leadership to define strategy, resourcing, and roadmap for the infrastructure team.
  • Ensure reliability, availability, and performance through operational excellence.
  • Drive adoption of infrastructure best practices, including GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, and security.
  • Partner with product teams to define requirements for upcoming projects.
  • Clearly communicate technical direction and priorities to engineers, leadership, and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with other engineering leads to ensure seamless platform experiences.

You will have a clear picture of the Infrastructure team and platform's State of the Union, forming strong opinions and a concrete plan for working with the team and leadership.

You will have made a significant impact, potentially influencing or restructuring team processes, identifying key pain points, and communicating them clearly. You will also have begun active talent retention, development, and acquisition initiatives.

In Your First 12 Months

You will have taken decisive ownership of the Infrastructure engineering organization, implementing clear, effective processes for team success. You will have instilled a level of professionalism resulting in an elite-performing team and a reliable, scalable, and delightful Laravel Cloud platform.

Requirements

  • 4+ years experience leading or managing infrastructure engineering teams.
  • Deep understanding of what people need to do their best work.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Knowledge of the operator pattern (Go).
  • Strong understanding of AWS services, including:
    • EKS
    • VPC/networking fundamentals
    • IAM and security architecture
  • Experience running large-scale distributed systems with high availability.
  • Strong background in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CDK, or similar).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills—ability to align teams, unblock engineers, and advance projects.
