Full Stack Software Engineer (PHP/Laravel)

Evolution Collect is developing innovative software to make debt collection more human, intelligent, and effective. We are seeking a strong full-stack PHP/Laravel engineer to build the next generation of our platform. While our core application stack is diverse, we prioritize strong engineering fundamentals, product ownership, and adaptability across technologies.

In this core product engineering role, you will develop messaging, workflow, and automation tools, integrations, reporting, and customer-facing features for real-world collection operations. The position encompasses backend and frontend development, API integrations, architecture, deployment, and continuous product improvement. You will also contribute to our roadmap by building with modern AI models and APIs, with a primary focus on robust Laravel engineering.

You will collaborate closely with stakeholders to translate business problems into practical technical solutions, make sound engineering decisions, and take ownership of features from initial concept through production and iteration. This fast-paced role emphasizes quick experiments, testing assumptions, learning from results, and frequent releases through short, iterative development cycles.

What You'll Do

• Own features end-to-end: Take projects from discussion through deployment, building backend services, APIs, integrations, and responsive frontend experiences across our application stack.
• Ship communication and automation features: Develop high-volume texting, email, notification, and workflow automation capabilities for our customers.
• Integrate external services: Connect our platform with communication services, AI models, and other third-party systems, ensuring reliability in production.
• Build reporting over large datasets: Design efficient queries and data workflows to power reporting and analytics across high-volume operational data.
• Ship reliable production software: Write maintainable, tested code and utilize logging, monitoring, deployment, and debugging tools to maintain feature health in production.

What We're Looking For

Required

• 3+ years of professional software development experience, including production PHP/Laravel work.
• Strong PHP and Laravel experience building production backend applications, APIs, and integrations.
• Solid JavaScript skills and experience with a modern frontend framework (e.g., Vue.js).
• Relational database depth in MySQL, including schema design, query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning with large datasets and reporting workloads.
• Comfort with queues, background jobs, caching, and other production application patterns.
• Git and modern development workflows.
• Automated testing habits and judgment for coverage.
• Ability to translate business needs into practical product and technical decisions, communicate clearly, and work independently.

Nice to Have

• Experience building with LLM APIs or AI-powered features in production.
• Experience working with and manipulating large datasets, including transforming, processing, and integrating data from multiple sources.
• Data warehouse or analytics database experience such as Redshift or ClickHouse.
• Elasticsearch.
• Docker and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
• Experience with SaaS or B2B products, Communications, CRM, payments, regulated industries, or sensitive customer data.

We are expanding the platform with new data, automation, and AI capabilities to significantly enhance both the consumer experience and business outcomes.

We are a small, experienced team where individuals have significant ownership. Despite our size, we operate at scale, sending hundreds of millions of emails and text messages monthly. Evo is fully owned, ensuring our team controls the product roadmap, architecture, data, and development velocity. Developers work directly with stakeholders, shaping solutions and taking projects from initial idea through launch and iteration. This is a fully remote role; we also have offices in Skokie, IL, and Miami, FL. Pay: $115,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
