Quick Summary
As a Developer, you will be a vital member of Future's Platform Team, collaborating closely with the wider Technology & Engineering department. Your primary objective is to ensure the delivery of scalable, well-structured, and efficient web applications and components.
This role involves working on both green-field projects, utilizing the latest libraries and best practices, and maintaining/improving existing codebases. You will manage the scoping and planning of new software components, refactor existing code, and partner with other teams to build new services and products.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Tech Lead, you will focus on building high-quality, performant UI components for Future's proprietary Vanilla platform. This system integrates TypeScript and PHP, utilizes TailwindCSS, and powers major brands including TechRadar, Marie Claire, PC Gamer, and Homes & Gardens.
You are responsible for ensuring code is well-scoped, documented, tested, and production-ready. Key tasks include tracing and fixing bugs across the stack, writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and participating in code reviews and QA processes. You will stay current with modern development practices, help shape the evolving tech stack, and engage in regular hack days to prototype innovative technical and business solutions.
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve
- Modern web development skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript, including knowledge of CSS/JS internals and modern build systems.
- Experience building performant, accessible UI components from scratch using modern JavaScript frameworks, emphasizing standards and consistency.
- Experience with full-stack development, including working with APIs, databases, and languages such as PHP, TypeScript, and/or Go.
- Experience with performance optimization and tooling, including browser dev tools, flame graphs, Git, and debugging techniques.
- Comfortable working in modern delivery environments, including CI/CD.

The expected salary range for this role is £45,000 - £50,000.
