Director of Engineering – Remote (SaaS/Food Manufacturing)

As the Director of Engineering, you will define the vision, strategy, and execution plan for our technology organization. This role requires blending strategic leadership with technical depth, focusing on aligning engineering efforts with business goals, leading architectural innovation, and scaling teams, processes, and technologies to support a growing SaaS business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define and execute the strategic vision and roadmap for engineering, architecture, and product quality.
• Ensure technology strategy aligns seamlessly with overall business goals and evolving market trends.
• Lead technology assessments, including M&A due diligence and integration planning.
• Introduce and scale innovative technologies to maintain a competitive market edge.
• Continuously improve engineering processes to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
• Manage budgets, resources, and risk effectively across multiple teams and projects.
• Mentor and develop engineering leaders and individual contributors, fostering professional growth.
• Champion user-centric design, agile methodologies, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Partner closely with stakeholders and customers to align priorities and solution development.
• Drive accountability and track performance using clear metrics and comprehensive reporting.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
• 8+ years of progressive leadership experience, including 4+ years leading engineering organizations.
• 2+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• Proven success scaling teams, managing budgets, and leading the full talent lifecycle.
• Deep experience managing SaaS platforms and cloud-based solutions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with data privacy and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, PCI).
• Ability to coach and mentor both managers and technical teams effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in a relevant technical or business field.
• Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) or training platforms.
• Background in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) or Food Safety manufacturing.
• Proven leadership in M&A due diligence and integration.
• Experience scaling engineering teams through significant growth phases.
• Familiarity with SAFe or other scaled agile frameworks.
• Technical familiarity with:
  • Front-end: JavaScript, React, HTML5, CSS
  • Back-end: Linux, Apache, PHP, Node, AWS Lambda, REST APIs
  • Databases: Relational DBs
  • Tools: GitHub, Jira
