EMPIGO Technologies is seeking an experienced Contract Web Designer to specialize in the design, enhancement, and ongoing maintenance of client websites. This role focuses on platforms such as WordPress and Drupal, with a preference for experience with Pantheon hosting.

As a seasoned freelancer, you will work autonomously, managing multiple clients simultaneously to deliver polished, professional websites that align with brand goals. You will collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to provide essential site updates, develop new landing pages, execute redesigns, and implement usability improvements across a diverse client portfolio.

What You'll Need:

Experience Requirements

  • 4+ years of hands‑on experience designing and maintaining CMS websites.
  • Strong experience with WordPress and demonstrated ability to support Drupal sites (site building, theming, page layout/configuration).
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS with strong responsive design fundamentals.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple sites/clients simultaneously and deliver reliably in a contract setting.
  • Strong visual design skills (layout, typography, spacing, color) and attention to detail.

Education (One of the following)

  • High School diploma with required experience above.
  • Relevant professional IT certifications with required experience above.

What You'll Do:

WordPress + Drupal Design & Implementation

  • Design, build, and enhance websites and landing pages in WordPress and Drupal using themes, layouts/components, and site builders.
  • Translate wireframes, mockups, and requirements into functional, clean, and maintainable CMS implementations.
  • Customize themes/templates and configure modules/plugins to meet client requirements.

Multi‑Client Website Support

  • Support multiple client sites concurrently while maintaining design quality and consistent delivery.
  • Perform ongoing updates, enhancements, and refinements across a managed portfolio.
  • Troubleshoot front‑end layout/styling issues and coordinate fixes with development resources.

User Experience & Visual Design

  • Create intuitive, responsive, accessible layouts optimized for desktop and mobile.
  • Ensure sites follow brand standards, visual identity, and usability best practices.
  • Improve navigation, content hierarchy, and page flow for clarity and engagement.

Performance, SEO & Best Practices

  • Apply practical best practices for accessibility, performance, and basic SEO.
  • Identify and recommend improvements that enhance speed, maintainability, and user experience.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Communicate progress, risks, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
  • Document reusable patterns, components, and site-specific notes for sustainable changes.

Pantheon & Multi‑Environment Workflow (Preferred)

  • Work comfortably in Pantheon workflows (e.g., Dev/Test/Live environments).
  • Support deployment-ready changes in coordination with technical teams.
  • Maintain strong change hygiene across environments to reduce risk and improve repeatability.

  • Someone who balances design polish with practical maintainability in real client environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting clients in an MSP or agency environment (multiple concurrent clients, ticket/project workflow).
  • Familiarity with Pantheon hosting and environment workflows (Dev/Test/Live).
  • Comfort with child themes/templates and light theming customization.
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript and/or PHP/Twig for minor enhancements.
  • Familiarity with accessibility expectations (WCAG concepts).
