CTO Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the organization’s overall technology strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market trends.
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable software solutions using languages such as Java, C#, Python, PHP, and JavaScript frameworks like React, Angular, and Node.js.
  • Oversee IT infrastructure management including cloud computing platforms such as AWS and Azure, WAN networks, distributed systems, and cloud development environments.
  • Implement comprehensive cybersecurity measures by establishing firewalls, risk management protocols, disaster recovery plans, and adherence to standards like NIST, ISO , PCI, and FISMA.
  • Manage IT teams responsible for system design, application development, DevOps practices, ITIL processes, and project management using Agile methodologies.
  • Drive innovation through emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and business intelligence tools to enhance product offerings and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards by developing policies around data security, business continuity planning, system analysis skills, and IT governance frameworks.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to establish budgets for technology initiatives while negotiating vendor contracts for hardware/software procurement including Oracle databases, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, Linux servers, and ERP systems.

CTO Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or related field; advanced certifications in cybersecurity (CISSP), cloud (AWS Certified Solutions Architect), or project management (PMP) are highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience in IT management roles with proven leadership in managing large technical teams and strategic planning at an executive level.
  • Deep understanding of computer networking concepts including WANs, firewalls, APIs integration, system design principles, and distributed systems architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC), DevOps practices, Agile methodologies, and application development frameworks such as .NET and Java.
  • Expertise in cloud infrastructure management including Azure and AWS cloud services; familiarity with cloud infrastructure security best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop comprehensive cybersecurity strategies aligned with NIST standards; experience with disaster recovery planning and business continuity strategies.
  • Excellent analysis skills to evaluate emerging technologies like AI/ML/NLP for potential integration into products or services.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite for reporting and documentation purposes; negotiation skills for vendor relations are a plus.
