Backend Developer (Laravel / PHP)

We are a fast-growing UK-based start-up seeking an ambitious Backend Developer with strong experience in Laravel and PHP. You will work on exciting web and digital projects, contributing to new features and maintaining existing systems within a small, friendly, and collaborative team. About the Role:

You will build and maintain web applications using Laravel and PHP, work with MySQL databases and Laravel's Eloquent ORM, and create and consume RESTful APIs. You will collaborate with team members during planning and development, write clean, well-documented code, attend team meetings, and manage your workload effectively to meet project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain web applications using Laravel and PHP.
• Work with MySQL databases and Laravel's Eloquent ORM.
• Create and consume RESTful APIs.
• Collaborate with team members during planning and development.
• Write clean, well-documented code and follow best practices.
• Attend team meetings and provide progress updates.
• Meet project deadlines and manage workload effectively.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Laravel & PHP: Solid hands-on experience with the Laravel framework, strong knowledge of PHP and object-oriented programming, understanding of MVC architecture and Laravel Blade templates, experience with Laravel routing, middleware, migrations, and Eloquent ORM, knowledge of Laravel features (Artisan, Queues, Jobs, Events, Notifications), understanding of security best practices (validation, sanitisation, authentication).
• General Technical Skills: Good knowledge of MySQL (or other relational databases), basic experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, familiarity with Git version control (GitHub, GitLab, etc.), experience testing and debugging code, comfortable working on live sites and performing deployments.
• Soft Skills & Work Style: Fast learner who enjoys solving problems, well-spoken with clear written English, team player capable of collaboration and feedback, self-motivated and organized, willing to ask questions and seek support.

Qualifications Required:

• Essential: 2+ years of experience with Laravel and PHP, portfolio/GitHub/project links, strong understanding of full-stack web development basics, good command of spoken and written English, comfortable working independently and in a remote team.
• Nice to Have: Degree in Computer Science or related field, experience in a start-up or agency, familiarity with Laravel Livewire, Inertia.js, or Vue.js, knowledge of Docker, basic server setup, or deployment tools, experience with Agile or Scrum workflows.
