Position Summary

The Associate Full Stack Web Developer is responsible for developing, enhancing, testing, and supporting web-based applications within a Linux-based environment. This role works across front-end and back-end application components, database interactions, source control, and product support activities.

The position performs assigned development work with general direction from senior developers or management and collaborates with team members to deliver reliable, maintainable software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Application Development

  • Develop, test, implement, and maintain web-based applications in a Linux, Apache, MySQL/MariaDB, and PHP environment.
  • Build and enhance front-end and back-end application components.
  • Develop applications using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, HTML5, CSS, XML, JSON, and WebSockets.
  • Support application features involving LDAP, Perl, QML, or related technologies when required.
  • Modify and improve existing applications based on business and technical requirements.

Database Development

  • Connect applications to MySQL or MariaDB databases.
  • Write and maintain SQL queries, including joins and data manipulation statements.
  • Retrieve, validate, and process application data.
  • Assist with troubleshooting database-related application issues.

Source Control & Release Support

  • Maintain source code using Git.
  • Create branches, perform merges, and support code release activities.
  • Follow established version-control, documentation, and deployment procedures.
  • Participate in peer reviews and testing activities as assigned.

Linux & File Management

  • Work with Linux commands, file systems, permissions, and program output.
  • Perform basic file operations and application configuration tasks.
  • Troubleshoot basic application and environment issues within Linux systems.

User Interface & Media Support

  • Develop and maintain functional, user-friendly web interfaces.
  • Perform basic image editing, including resizing and transparency adjustments.
  • Support responsive and cross-browser application functionality.
  • Assist with integration of applications and external services.

Product Support & Collaboration

  • Provide product support and assist with troubleshooting application issues.
  • Work collaboratively with developers, project teams, and business stakeholders.
  • Document code, configurations, application functions, and issue resolutions.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to senior development resources as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience developing web-based applications.
  • Experience working with PHP, JavaScript, HTML, HTML5, CSS, XML, and JSON.
  • Experience working with MySQL or MariaDB databases and writing SQL queries.
  • Experience maintaining source code projects using Git.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based web application environments.
  • Experience integrating applications or external systems preferred.
  • Experience supporting production applications or software products is a plus.
  • Experience working with newspaper, publishing, or media organizations is a plus.
