AI & Software Engineering Intern – Computer Science/ 1 hour ago

Application ends: 2026-10-02

Quick Summary

This paid, remote AI & Software Engineering Intern role is for Computer Science graduate students or recent graduates to develop AI-powered software products and decision-support systems, focusing on AI/LLM applications, prompt engineering, APIs, automation, and full-stack development. Responsibilities include designing, building, testing, and improving AI applications, integrating LLMs, and working with various development tools, with a preference for candidates experienced in Python, JavaScript, AI/ML frameworks, and modern development practices.

Decision Philosophy is seeking a highly motivated and technically curious Computer Science graduate student or recent graduate to join our team as an AI & Software Engineering Intern.

This paid internship provides an opportunity to work on real-world applications at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, decision science, behavioral science, and software engineering.

Our mission is to explore how AI can help individuals and organizations make better decisions, understand human behavior, reduce cognitive biases, and improve outcomes in areas with meaningful social impact.

As a Computer Science Intern, you will work closely with leadership and the product team to design, build, test, and improve AI-powered software products and decision-support systems.

You will have the opportunity to work across AI/LLM applications, prompt engineering, APIs, automation, frontend/backend development, databases, product testing, and AI-assisted software development.

Areas You May Work On

Depending on your skills and interests, projects may include:

  • AI-powered decision-support applications
  • Large Language Model (LLM) integrations
  • AI agents and conversational systems
  • AI-assisted assessment and recommendation systems
  • Behavioral and decision-making applications
  • Digital avatars and personalized AI experiences
  • Data processing and analysis
  • Workflow automation
  • API integrations
  • Web and application development
  • Product experimentation and prototyping
  • AI evaluation and testing
  • User experience and product optimization

Responsibilities

As a Computer Science Intern, you may be responsible for:

  • Assisting in designing and developing AI-powered applications and software features.
  • Building prototypes and proofs-of-concept using modern AI and software development tools.
  • Integrating LLMs and AI APIs into product features and workflows.
  • Work with APIs, databases, automation tools, and third-party services.
  • Develop and improve frontend and backend functionality.
  • Assist with prompt engineering, prompt testing, and AI response optimization.
  • Design experiments to evaluate the quality, accuracy, consistency, and usefulness of AI-generated outputs.
  • Develop automated workflows and integrations to improve product efficiency.
  • Conduct technical research on emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and development approaches.
  • Debug software issues and assist with troubleshooting and performance improvements.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation.
  • Assist with software testing, QA, and regression testing.
  • Analyze user feedback and translate findings into technical or product improvements.
  • Collaborate with leadership and multidisciplinary team members across AI, decision science, psychology, and product development.
  • Explore emerging developments in generative AI, LLMs, AI agents, machine learning, and software engineering.
  • Help rapidly prototype and validate new product ideas.

AI-Assisted Software Development

The intern will be encouraged to use modern AI tools to improve software development speed and productivity.

Examples include:

  • ChatGPT
  • Claude
  • Gemini
  • GitHub Copilot
  • Lovable
  • Cursor
  • Replit
  • Other AI coding and development platforms

You may use AI tools for:

  • Code generation
  • Debugging
  • Refactoring
  • Documentation
  • Test generation
  • API research
  • Prototyping
  • Prompt engineering
  • Technical research
  • Code review
  • Automated workflows

The ability to effectively evaluate and validate AI-generated code and outputs is more important than simply using AI to generate code.

Expected Deliverables

During the internship, the intern may contribute to building and maintaining:

  • AI-powered application features
  • Software prototypes
  • LLM/API integrations
  • AI agents and conversational workflows
  • Automated workflows
  • Frontend components
  • Backend services
  • Database structures
  • API integrations
  • AI prompts and prompt libraries
  • AI evaluation and testing frameworks
  • Automated test cases
  • QA/testing documentation
  • Technical documentation
  • Product prototypes
  • Research and technical evaluation reports

Performance will be evaluated primarily on the quality of technical work, problem-solving ability, learning speed, reliability, and meaningful contribution to product development, rather than simply the amount of code produced.
