About Xano:
Xano enables developers to build AI-powered systems everyone can trust. Xano is the leading backend infrastructure platform for building APIs, logic, and workflows that power modern apps, services, and AI agents—visually and without code. Built for the agentic era, Xano provides everything you need to launch and scale AI-driven systems: dynamic APIs, contextual business logic, scalable storage, and secure, production-grade deployment—without DevOps overhead or stitching together fragmented tools. Trusted by over 100,000 users in 90+ countries.
Why We’re Hiring:
Xano is at a pivotal moment in its growth. We’ve built a product with strong market traction and an exceptional engineering team led by our technical co-founder, whose vision and expertise drive Xano’s competitive edge. We’re now seeking a proven leader to connect product vision with execution — someone who keeps the entire team relentlessly focused on what matters most: shipping the right things, for the right customers, with a clear line from feature to business outcome.
Who You Are
- A hands-on engineering leader — comfortable in the code, not just in the calendar
- This role starts as roughly 60% technical contribution, 40% leadership, shifting over time
- Deeply AI-native in how you think about building, tooling, and what’s next — you don’t need to be convinced why this matters
- A self-starter who doesn’t wait for structure — you build it
- You’ve seen what partial leadership looks like — and you know the difference. When you’re in the seat, you’re all in
- Low ego, high standards. You want the team to win more than you want to be right.
- Comfortable in fast-moving SaaS environments where priorities shift and high-pressure moments are part of the job — you triage, you don’t panic
What You’ll Own
Engineering Process & Delivery
- Partner closely with our Director of Product to ensure engineering stays focused on agreed-upon scope, priority, and timeline — and that nothing falls through the cracks between planning and shipping
- Drive the cadence and quality of what the engineering team delivers, reducing last-minute scope changes and increasing predictability
- Own the engineering side of the release process in lockstep with Product — clear ownership, defined handoffs, and accountability when something breaks or slips
- Own hot fix decisions. When they go out, what they contain, and how they're communicated. Ensuring the right people are informed and fixes don't bypass
- Work alongside our Technical Product Manager to keep day-to-day execution on track
Team leadership
- Manage the engineering and QA teams directly — overseeing performance, growth, and, when needed, hiring or exits
- Hold a high bar for talent. If the right players aren’t in seat, move decisively to strengthen the team
- Build a culture where engineers understand how their work connects to customer needs and business outcomes
Technical Understanding
- Full-stack experience (5+ years)
- Our tech stack includes Angular for the front end, PHP for the back end, and PostgreSQL as our database.
- We leverage Node.js for real-time services and Lambda functions.
- Our customers are deployed through Docker, orchestrated with Kubernetes, and hosted on Google Cloud.
- While experience with these specific technologies is highly preferred, it’s not required—comparable skills in similar frameworks are equally valuable.
- You will be expected to contribute across the stack where it makes sense and collaborate with the team on meaningful technical decisions.
Technical Planning and Discovery
- Work directly with engineers to scope features from the technical side — breaking down complexity, surfacing risks early, and strengthening product requirements before work begins
- Engage upstream in discovery alongside our Director of Product so that effort estimation, sequencing, and tradeoffs happen earlier and with more accuracy
- Be the pragmatic bridge between business priorities and technical realities, ensuring the team is solving the right problems in the right order
Engineering culture and process
- Raise the bar on trust, speed, and quality — the three areas where we must excel
- Implement engineering process and delivery improvements that drive features through the full development cycle with a clear GTM and results-oriented focus from start to finish
- Ensure that good ideas that emerge organically still get productized, sequenced, and shipped with intention
- Build stronger guardrails around what gets pushed to production and when, in partnership with Product and QA
Technical partnership with our CTO
- Earn the trust and respect of our CTO by staying close to the technical reality of the product.
- Serve as the first line of triage on escalations — resolving what can be resolved and ensuring our CTO is brought in when it genuinely requires him, not as the default first call
- Keep our CTO closely aligned and confident that the operational layer is in capable hands — a true partner, not just an operator
- Create the space for our CTO to focus on the foundational and platform-level investments that drive Xano’s long-term advantage
What Success Looks Like in Your First 90 Days
- Our CTO has materially more bandwidth and is spending more time on high-leverage technical work
- Escalations and hot-fixes are better triaged: CS and Engineering follow documented best practices, resolution details are thorough, recurring issues are reduced through better tooling, and our CTO is pulled in at the right moments rather than by default
- Releases are more predictable — clear ownership, defined process, fewer surprises at the finish line
- The engineering team knows who owns what and how decisions get made.
- Our Director of Product has a genuine delivery partner who shows up to planning conversations prepared and keeps engineering accountable to what was agreed
- You have a clear point of view on the team — who’s strong, where the gaps are, and what to do about them
Why work at Xano:
This is an exciting opportunity to work at a fast-growing, mission and community-driven startup
Opportunity for impact : we have an open, direct team culture: leadership discusses initiatives, issues, and plans openly, and enjoys being challenged on their thinking
We move fast : we are product-led and are focused on execution in the day-to-day. This means no endless meetings on strategy and execution. If we disagree about a feature direction, we'll default to trying it out in a quick, low-risk way
Ownership : we measure success based on customer happiness. If you pitch something you think would dramatically improve our users' lives and the team agrees, the response will almost always be “Let’s do it!”
