Tech Lead Hands-on (AI-Native Engineering)

Q-tech is seeking a Tech Lead for a luxury travel technology startup. This privately funded company has a product already in production and boasts a highly developed technological foundation, including modular architecture and 100% infrastructure as code. A significant portion of the development lifecycle, from code writing and testing to documentation and production monitoring, is delegated to semi-autonomous AI agents operating under human supervision.

The Challenge

We are looking for a technically strong Tech Lead with high execution capacity to become the internal technical reference for the company. This role is the foundational piece of a new internal team. The product was previously developed by an external technical team, and the objective is to internalize this knowledge. The selected candidate will take over product ownership with support during the transition, assuming full technical responsibility.

This is a hybrid role combining traditional engineering with "agent-assisted" engineering. Beyond designing, building, and maintaining functionality, you will supervise, adjust, and evolve the AI agent ecosystem that currently writes code, corrects tests, updates documentation, and monitors production.

We seek a "builder" mindset: someone with high autonomy, comfortable with the ambiguity of an early-stage startup, and a genuine desire to build something new on an already solid foundation, rather than just maintaining existing processes.

How We Work

• On-site position in Madrid city center offices, with 1 day of remote work per week.
• Small teams, quick decisions, and minimal bureaucracy.
• Development heavily utilizes agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, and similar). A significant part of technical execution involves directing and supervising these AI agents, not solely manual coding.

Technology Stack

• Backend: Laravel (PHP), modular architecture.
• Frontend: Astro with React components.
• Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform, Docker containers, separate production and staging environments, all managed as code.
• Integrations with travel sector providers.
• AI Agent Ecosystem: For development, testing, documentation, and monitoring (Claude Code, Codex, observability tools like Grafana).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality applications and services.
• Define technical architecture and best development practices.
• Actively participate in software development, dedicating most time to technical tasks.
• Supervise and evolve the AI agent ecosystem in the development cycle: interpret logs, define evaluations, detect degradation, and adjust or replace agents.
• Translate business needs into scalable and efficient technological solutions.
• Evaluate technologies, tools, and frameworks based on product needs.
• Establish and maintain development, testing, deployment, and monitoring processes.
• Ensure the quality, security, and scalability of developed solutions.
• Proactively identify technical risks and propose solutions.
• Collaborate closely with founders and stakeholders to define priorities and the technological roadmap.
• Contribute to the future building of the technical team as the company grows.

Requirements

• Solid experience in software development (backend and, ideally, frontend knowledge).
• Previous experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Tech Lead, or similar profile.
• Real practical experience with agentic development tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar).
• Strong knowledge of software architecture and system design.
• Experience developing products from scratch or in very early stages.
• High autonomy and ability to take responsibility for technical decisions.
• Practical, problem-solving mindset, comfortable with ambiguity.
• Experience working directly with business or product teams.
• Good communication and collaboration skills.
• Availability to work on-site in Madrid.

Highly Valued Qualifications

• Experience in startups or fast-evolving environments.
• Previous experience in the travel/tourism sector.
• Experience in Channel Management.
• Knowledge of cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and Terraform/IaC.
• Experience defining evaluations or evaluation systems for AI agents/models in production.
• Previous participation in building technical teams or defining engineering culture.

Salary: 50,000€-60,000€
