Fandom is expanding its team! We are seeking a Software Engineer II (Backend, PHP) to join our Wiki Platform team. This position is based in Poznań, with remote work options available from anywhere in Poland. You will report directly to our Director of Engineering.

In this role, you will contribute to creating engaging user experiences for 350 million fans, generating 4 billion page events monthly. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan, design, and build scalable web applications and experiences.

About This Role

As part of the team, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving Fandom's wiki platform, which runs on PHP 8.3 and MediaWiki, supported by over 100 microservices written in Java & GoLang. Your team will focus on enhancing reliability (observability, stability, and resiliency to faults) and performance, both directly through specific challenges and indirectly by providing and improving tools, services, and infrastructure components for other teams.

As a Software Engineer II, you will own the entire lifecycle of tasks and features, from initial development to post-release maintenance. You will write maintainable, forward-thinking code that minimizes complexity and over-engineering. You will be an effective collaborator, actively participating in all team development processes and meetings.

You will also have the opportunity to proactively identify critical systems needing change, address architectural problems, and build features for upcoming projects. You will contribute to the strategic direction and roadmap planning for your team, working across teams to solve complex problems.

You Will

  • Help build some of the most visited entertainment sites on the Internet.
  • Lead end-to-end application and feature design processes.
  • Improve web applications to perform optimally at a very large scale.
  • Help your team identify the best processes to solve various business challenges.
  • Collaborate with teammates and other business stakeholders to share knowledge and inspire great work.

You Have

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience in building modern web applications and fluency in PHP.
  • Solid systems and API design skills.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience in improving application observability (metrics, tracing, alerting).
  • Courage for learning new technologies and stepping out of your comfort zone.
  • Drive to solve interesting and challenging problems at scale.
  • Passion for delivering well-structured, tested, maintainable, and useful software.
  • Ability to communicate in English.

Bonus Points if You Have

  • Experience in Java or GoLang.
  • Experience with MediaWiki engine.
  • Experience working with highly-scaled web applications and platforms.
  • Experience with GCP (Google Cloud Platform) or similar cloud provider.
