About The Role: Software Engineer I

As a Software Engineer I at Murj, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of our complex cardiac device management platform. This role focuses on resolving customer requests, addressing bugs, and clearing backlog items, providing a 360-degree view of the Murj ecosystem. This foundational experience will prepare you for deep-level feature development, making you an expert in our system's functionality. Candidates in Eastern or Central time zones are preferred.

You will work independently, taking initiative to tackle unassigned tasks. While your initial focus will be on mastering our frontend application, you will have opportunities to expand your expertise across the entire stack as you grow.

What You'll Do

  • Investigate & Resolve: Tackle bug reports, implement feature enhancements, and perform frontend maintenance to ensure a seamless experience for clinicians.
  • Customer Impact: Directly address customer-requested improvements, observing the immediate impact on daily workflows.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with the QA team to reproduce issues and the Product team to understand requirements.
  • Modernization: Manage third-party dependencies, keeping the codebase current and secure.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify recurring bug patterns and propose long-term architectural enhancements.
  • Deployment: Become proficient with our GitLab CI/CD pipeline and release processes.
  • Feedback: Iterate on implementations through code reviews and pair programming.
  • Automated Testing: Write and maintain unit tests using Vitest to ensure durable bug fixes and prevent regressions.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Curiosity First: Driven to understand root causes of bugs, not just fix them, ensuring long-term solutions.
  • Adaptability: Eager to start with frontend development and expand scope across the stack as the team evolves.
  • Ownership: Takes pride in delivering quality, from UI polish to resolved edge cases, enhancing the user experience for doctors.
  • Detailed Communicator: Skilled in documenting findings and translating complex technical issues into clear status updates for the team.

What You Bring

  • React Proficiency: Professional or project experience with React and its core principles.
  • Modern Tooling Kit: Experience with or strong desire to master TypeScript, Vite, and MobX.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Enjoys debugging, digging through logs, and documentation.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders (Product, Support).
  • Quality First: Commitment to thoroughly tested and verified code.

Nice To Haves

  • Backend Exposure: Familiarity with PHP or API design (REST/GraphQL).
  • DevOps Interest: Desire to learn Docker, Terraform, or cloud infrastructure.
  • Healthcare Tech: Experience in a HIPAA-compliant environment or with medical data.
  • CSS Mastery: Strong understanding of layout, accessibility (a11y), and responsive design.
  • Secure Coding Practices: Knowledge of best practices and/or exposure to SAST.

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

  • In 30 Days: Successfully completed initial bug fixes, navigated the GitLab CI/CD pipeline, and comfortable with the frontend codebase.
  • In 60 Days: Independently owning investigative tickets, collaborating with QA for validation, and contributing to peer code reviews.
  • In 90 Days: Comprehensive understanding of the application's frontend state, suggesting architectural improvements, and beginning cross-over tasks involving APIs or infrastructure.
