Staff Backend Engineer Role Overview

As a Staff Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader operating across a broad scope of backend technologies (servers, serverless, managed services, etc.) and multiple projects. While a hands-on attitude is expected, your primary focus will be enabling multiple teams to deliver features effectively and coherently by providing high-quality technical decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Technical Leadership & Architecture: Design and lead the implementation of complex, multi-team projects. Define architecture for new services or major system changes, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Cross-Team Alignment: Act as the technical liaison between teams, ensuring systems integrate seamlessly and align with a unified technical vision.
• Solving Complex Problems: Serve as the expert for the hardest technical challenges within your domain, often involving deep-diving into performance bottlenecks, resolving complex integration issues, or designing fault-tolerant systems.
• Mentorship & Uplift: Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, fostering growth. Elevate the organization's technical capabilities by setting high standards for code quality, testing, and design (e.g., leading design reviews, writing technical standards).
• Strategic Planning: Collaborate with product managers, the Chief Technology Officer, and Tech Leads to define the technical roadmap, identify technical debt, and propose new initiatives aligned with future business goals.

Your Profile:

• 8+ years of professional experience demonstrating significant impact and scope in previous roles (e.g., creating scalable solutions, influencing product direction).
• Broad technological knowledge base.
• Experience in solving ambiguous and complex ("messy") problems, often lacking clear ownership or solutions.
• Excellent analytical and presentation skills.
• Ability to collaborate with product and engineering leadership to translate ambiguous, high-level business problems into concrete technical strategies.
• Extensive familiarity with AI coding agents.
• Experience with Large Language Model (LLM) integrations in a production environment, including prompt management, evaluations (evals), and API integrations.

• Deployment Targets: Linux servers, Containers (Docker Compose, ECS), Serverless (Lambda, Step Functions).
• Programming Languages: TypeScript, PHP, Python.
• Databases: RDBMS (Mysql Aurora, Supabase), NoSQL (AWS DocumentDB, DynamoDB, Redis), Fulltext (Elasticsearch), VectorDB (Pinecone).
