CI&T seeks an experienced Senior PHP Developer to enhance a legacy platform. This role focuses on developing robust API capabilities, implementing advanced error logging and monitoring, and supporting future integrations for phased platform modernization for one of our clients. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record in delivering high-quality PHP-based applications with API integrations for enterprise organizations.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement feature-rich, resource-oriented REST API endpoints, ensuring compatibility with existing legacy code.
- Author and generate OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
- Implement secure API authentication and authorization for public-facing endpoints, including session-based authentication, rate limiting, and request validation.
- Remedy and refactor critical issues within the legacy codebase that may impact API implementation.
- Implement structured logging and error tracking across the application (e.g., logs, correlation/request IDs).
- Set up application performance and error monitoring with proactive alerts.
- Write comprehensive unit and integration tests for new API endpoints.
- Coordinate with client teams to deliver changes, ensuring zero disruption to current functionality and ongoing feature development.
- Participate in peer reviews, attend agile ceremonies, and present work deliverables to client stakeholders at the end of each sprint.
Required Skills & Experience
- Solid experience with legacy PHP applications (procedural & light OOP), with a strong comfort level in refactoring rather than rewriting.
- Demonstrable REST API design experience, including versioning strategies and documentation.
- Hands-on experience implementing API authentication, authorization, and rate limiting for existing applications.
- Strong MySQL knowledge, capable of safely working with existing schemas and queries without introducing regression issues.
- Practical experience instrumenting PHP applications with structured logging and error tracking.
- Familiarity with setting up monitoring and alerting tech stacks within a PHP environment.
- A strong testing mindset, especially for legacy code.
- Working knowledge of Continuous Delivery (CD) and Continuous Integration (CI) for incremental, agile software delivery (e.g., Git, GitFlow).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience working within project management and agile delivery methodologies as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Fluent in English.

- Exposure to Spec-Driven Development, including writing specifications and machine-readable API contracts.
- Hands-on experience with Agentic SDLC.
