Senior Laravel Backend Developer (PHP) - Remote, Part-Time Contract

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Developer specializing in Laravel and PHP to design, build, and maintain reliable, secure, and scalable backend systems. This remote, part-time contract role requires close collaboration with product and frontend teams to deliver high-quality features quickly while maintaining architectural integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement robust backend services using Laravel, including REST APIs, background jobs, and integrations.
• Own critical backend architecture decisions related to performance, security, scalability, and maintainability.
• Build and optimize database schemas and queries (MySQL/PostgreSQL), focusing on indexing and migrations.
• Write clean, testable code using PHPUnit/Pest and continuously improve test coverage.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for APIs, services, and deployment processes.
• Enhance system reliability through effective logging, monitoring, error handling, and incident response protocols.
• Review Pull Requests (PRs), mentor developers, and establish backend best practices.
• Collaborate on CI/CD and deployment workflows utilizing tools like Docker, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.

Must-Have Skills:

• 5+ years of backend development experience with strong expertise in PHP and Laravel.
• Extensive experience building production APIs, including handling authentication, rate limiting, versioning, and validation.
• Deep understanding of Laravel queues (Redis/SQS), caching, events, and job processing.
• Solid database knowledge, including transactions, locking, and performance tuning.
• Proficiency with Git, code review processes, and modern development workflows.
• Ability to work independently and manage clear deliverables in a part-time setting.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Microservices or modular monolith architectures.
• Familiarity with Redis, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and message brokers.
• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS/GCP (S3, RDS, ECS, CloudWatch).
• Background in developing systems for payments, marketplaces, CRM, or high-traffic environments.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and implementing robust retry/idempotency logic.
