What you will do:

The Core Marketplace team is part of the Core and Commons tribe at TheFork, focused on providing transversal functional capabilities consumed by all tribes. Its mission is to build and maintain the technical blocks necessary for customer-facing functionalities for both B2C and B2B customers. The team's scope includes bookings, offers, and availability. While not directly implementing new end-user features, the team supports customer-facing teams by providing new capabilities in core components, testing, documentation, and promoting good practices. The Core Marketplace team consists of 4 engineers, mostly senior profiles, distributed across France, Italy, and with contractors in Romania.

The technical stack includes:

  • React & GraphQL for web front-end
  • NodeJS & Typescript for backend services (microservice-based architecture)
  • Json RPC for internal service communications
  • PHP / Symfony for legacy components being decommissioned
  • PostgreSQL & ElasticSearch for storage
  • RabbitMQ as an event bus for domain events
  • Datadog for monitoring
  • Kubernetes & AWS for orchestration & hosting

As a senior backend engineer, you will contribute to the team's roadmap by:

  • Working closely with the product manager on functional and technical discovery of new features, including requirements understanding, technical analysis, and task scoping.
  • Collaborating with senior engineers on the development and delivery of features.
  • Assisting the QA team during testing and validation.
  • Transversally collaborating with other teams to build cross-functional functionalities.
  • Producing relevant documentation for the team's scope.
  • Continuously enhancing the team's processes and KPIs.

Who you are:

You Must Meet These Critical Qualifications:

  • A senior software engineer with relevant years of experience building backend services and applications.
  • Solid technical background in web technologies (6-10 years).
  • Rigorous, dynamic, and curious, with an agile mindset and strong team spirit, adaptable to a changing environment.
  • Experience building software with a problem-solving approach, leveraging customer inputs iteratively ("Product Discovery").
  • Understanding that coding is not the only job; ability to challenge product and stakeholder decisions, perform analysis, monitor post-release, write documentation, and communicate about new features.
  • Experience with architectural patterns of large-scale applications and coding best practices such as DDD, TDD, BDD.
  • Comfortable writing and speaking in English.

You Can Impress With These Additions:

  • Great communication skills, including explaining work to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Basic knowledge of GraphQL and PHP/Symfony.
  • Good understanding of SQL databases and SQL queries.
  • Comfortable working in a distributed remote team with engineers in various locations (within the same timezone).
