The Opportunity: Senior PHP/Laravel Backend Developer (Remote)

You will join a large-scale technological ecosystem supporting one of the main players in the Brazilian technology and digital services market. This role focuses heavily on solutions for companies, particularly within high-transactional, financial, and fiscal contexts.

The core challenge involves modernizing critical legacy systems and developing new backend services that sustain essential business operations, including billing, collection, charging, and strategic external platform integration. These applications demand high availability, security, resilience, and performance in complex, distributed environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Structure and evolve backend applications using PHP/Laravel, implementing modular architecture, service providers, middlewares, and queues/messaging (RabbitMQ and Horizon).
• Lead the modernization of legacy PHP systems (5.x, 7.x, 8.x), proposing architectural improvements and applying best practices for maintenance and scalability.
• Design and implement robust, versioned, and secure APIs, evaluating technical, operational, and business impact.
• Develop complex integrations with external APIs (especially fiscal and financial), including XML processing, digital signature, and schema validation.
• Participate in the full development lifecycle through production operation, ensuring application stability, performance, and reliability.
• Utilize Docker (multi-stage, NGINX + PHP-FPM) in distributed environments such as Swarm, Traefik, and/or Kubernetes.
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, automated tests, and quality analysis tools like Sonar.
• Monitor and diagnose production environments using tools such as Grafana, Zabbix, and logrotate.
• Model and optimize MySQL databases, ensuring data integrity, performance, and security.
• Conduct technical code reviews, mentor developers, and document solutions.
• Work collaboratively within agile squads, ensuring clear communication across technical, product, and business teams.

Required Skills & Experience

• Solid experience as a Senior Backend Developer in PHP/Laravel, demonstrating mastery of current framework versions and modular application architecture.
• Proven experience modernizing and maintaining legacy PHP systems (5.x, 7.x, 8.x), applying architectural best practices for maintainability and scalability.
• Experience with queues and messaging systems, specifically RabbitMQ and Horizon.
• Strong background in developing secure, versioned, and resilient APIs.
• Expertise in complex integrations, including XML processing, digital signature, schema validation, and communication with fiscal and financial APIs.
• Full lifecycle experience from development through critical production operation in distributed environments.
• Mastery of Docker (multi-stage, NGINX + PHP-FPM) and familiarity with Swarm, Traefik, and/or Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD, GitLab CI/CD, automated testing, and quality tools like Sonar.
• Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and diagnosis tools (Grafana, Zabbix, logrotate).
• Advanced knowledge of MySQL, including data modeling, query optimization, indexing, performance, and migration strategies.
• Experience with agile methodologies (Jira) and understanding of financial processes (billing, collection, charging).
