Responsibilities and Duties
Omie is one of the fastest-growing ERPs in Brazil, processing a massive volume of transactions daily. We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to work at the financial and tax heart of our clients: the Services and NFS-e Issuance team.
You will work directly on the development and maintenance of features on our proprietary platform. This is not an ordinary backend challenge. You will need to deal with a complex ecosystem of integrations, handling the idiosyncrasies of hundreds of different municipalities, architecture for large-scale billing (batch), and the imminent impacts of new tax legislation. If you like optimizing databases, building resilient cloud integrations, and using Artificial Intelligence to boost your code, this position is your next career step.
What You Will Do Day-to-Day
- Integration Engineering: Design, develop, and maintain robust integrations via API (REST/SOAP) with webservices of various municipalities across Brazil.
- Large-Scale Billing: Architect and optimize batch billing routines, ensuring efficient asynchronous processing, queue handling, resilience against network failures, and smart retries.
- Optimization and Performance: Work heavily on SQL Server databases. Analyze execution plans, optimize heavy queries, create/adjust indexes, and ensure the database supports the high volume of daily emissions without bottlenecks.
- Tax Strategy and Tax Reform: Translate complex municipal tax legislation into application logic and act on the front line of adapting our ERP to new scenarios and impacts of the Tax Reform on the sale of services.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve complex integration issues in production, mapping performance bottlenecks or communication failures with external servers.
Requirements and Qualifications
Non-negotiable Requirements (What you must have)
- Seniority in PHP: Minimum of 5 years of proven and exclusive experience with PHP programming, with the ability to write clean, scalable, and easy-to-maintain code.
- Expertise in Integrations: Deep experience with consuming and creating APIs, dealing with complex payloads (JSON/XML) and communication patterns with government webservices.
- SQL Server Master: Advanced knowledge that goes beyond CRUD. It is mandatory to know how to optimize slow queries, understand data modeling, and indexing strategies for tables with millions of records.
- Business and Taxation: Proven experience with NFS-e billing, municipal tax rules (ISS, retentions), and a clear understanding of how the Tax Reform affects the service provision scenario.
- Cloud Architecture: Practical knowledge and previous experience working with Cloud architectures and services, ensuring scalability and high availability.
- Development with AI: Practical experience using Artificial Intelligence to support programming (e.g., Gemini CLI, Claude, GitHub Copilot, etc.), aiming at increasing productivity, code reviews, and pair programming with AI.
- Best Practices and Versioning: Absolute mastery of Git and GitHub for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and code review.
What Will Make You Stand Out (Differentials)
- Previous experience working in ERP companies, commercial automation, or financial management software.
- Knowledge of other languages and frameworks that can support the maintenance of legacy systems or proprietary platforms.
- Experience with monitoring and observability of integrations (structured logs, communication failure alerts).
