About the Senior Platform Engineer Role

We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to significantly impact our internal platform, which supports hundreds of developers. This highly autonomous, hands-on role involves writing production-grade Go code, designing company-wide Kubernetes abstractions, evolving critical CI/CD pipelines, and enhancing our Internal Developer Portal with a strong focus on developer experience.

The ideal candidate will excel in technical design, deliver high-quality code, and collaborate effectively with product teams, understanding that platform adoption is key to its success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop core platform tools and services using Go, including CLI, API, webhooks, automations, and Kubernetes controllers.
  • Advance our CI/CD platform by enhancing GitLab CI components, pipeline templates, and automating build and deployment processes.
  • Manage and secure base Docker images (PHP, Node.js, databases, cache) for company-wide use, focusing on security, size, and multi-architecture support.
  • Expand our Backstage-based Internal Developer Portal through custom plugin development and integrations.
  • Create robust Kubernetes abstractions with Helm and Crossplane to simplify and secure infrastructure consumption.
  • Enhance platform observability using Datadog APM, tracing, and custom metrics.
  • Contribute to AI-powered developer tools, including code review automation, AI agent integration, and LLM governance.
  • Provide expert technical guidance to product teams on CI/CD, containerization, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Document (TechDocs, MkDocs) and advocate for the "Golden Path" development practices across the organization.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Go Expertise: Excellent knowledge of Go, capable of writing idiomatic, production-grade code for CLI, HTTP services, and Kubernetes controllers.
  • Kubernetes Proficiency: Solid experience with Kubernetes workloads, Helm charts, RBAC, namespaces, and CRDs.
  • Advanced Docker Skills: Expertise in multi-stage builds, image optimization, security hardening, and multi-architecture support.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Management: Proven experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, specifically with GitLab CI/CD or similar tools.
  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Experience: Hands-on experience with GKE, IAM, Workload Identity, Pub/Sub, and Artifact Registry.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Experience with Terraform and/or Crossplane.
  • Linux & Scripting: Familiarity with Linux, shell scripting, and Bash automation.
  • Git & Code Review: Strong command of Git, merge request workflows, and code review best practices.
  • Platform Engineering Mindset: Focus on developer experience, self-service, cognitive load reduction, and understanding internal developer needs.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to thrive in small, autonomous, and distributed team environments.

Bonus Skills

  • TypeScript and React experience for Backstage ecosystem contributions.
  • Direct experience with Backstage and custom plugin development.
  • Familiarity with Datadog (APM, tracing, custom metrics, dashboarding).
  • Experience with AI/LLM platforms and AI-powered developer tools (e.g., Vertex AI, Anthropic Claude, Gemini API).
  • Experience with messaging systems such as RabbitMQ and Google Pub/Sub.
  • Knowledge of the PHP/Symfony ecosystem.
  • Experience with Playwright for E2E testing automation.
  • Experience with Renovate for dependency automation.
  • Familiarity with modern infrastructure security practices and secret management.

The anticipated gross annual salary for this role ranges from €65,000 to €75,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
