About the Role

We are a growing UK software and digital business specializing in live production systems, including AI-powered platforms, internal tools, and client-facing applications.

We are seeking a Mid-Weight PHP Software Developer to take ownership of features, improvements, and ongoing maintenance across existing systems built using CodeIgniter, Laravel, and core PHP.

This role is ideal for a developer with solid commercial experience who is comfortable working independently on existing codebases, contributing to improvements, and supporting production systems in a collaborative, low-pressure environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work independently on existing PHP applications utilizing CodeIgniter and Laravel frameworks.
• Deliver new features, system enhancements, and critical bug fixes across live production systems.
• Support and improve backend logic and crucial API integrations.
• Manage MySQL / MariaDB databases, including executing queries and performing schema updates.
• Adhere to and enhance established code patterns and development workflows.
• Utilize Git for version control and facilitate collaboration through pull requests.
• Actively participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
• Ensure production stability and overall system reliability.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 2+ years of commercial experience working professionally with PHP (procedural + OOP).
• Strong expertise in either Laravel or CodeIgniter (both preferred).
• Confidence in working effectively on existing production systems.
• Solid understanding of MVC architecture principles.
• Proven experience working with MySQL / MariaDB databases.
• Comfortable using Git in a collaborative environment (branching, pull requests, reviews).
• Experience with REST API integration.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently manage assigned tasks.
• Good communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience utilizing both Laravel and CodeIgniter.
• Familiarity with Linux / hosting environments.
• Basic proficiency in JavaScript / jQuery.
• Prior experience supporting live production systems.

Compensation & Benefits:

Job Type: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: £22,000.00 - £27,000.00 per year

Expected Hours: 20 – 25 per week
