About the Role
We are seeking an experienced OpenEMR Software Engineer to maintain, customize, deploy, and enhance our OpenEMR-based healthcare platform. The ideal candidate will be proficient in application development, cloud infrastructure, containers, CI/CD pipelines, and source-code management. This hands-on contractor role requires independent troubleshooting, customization implementation, functionality maintenance, and continuous improvement of our OpenEMR environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support existing OpenEMR environment and customizations.
- Develop and implement OpenEMR customizations, integrations, and enhancements.
- Troubleshoot application, database, integration, and deployment issues.
- Work with PHP, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and MySQL/MariaDB.
- Deploy and maintain applications and services in Microsoft Azure.
- Work with Docker/containerized applications.
- Support and maintain Kubernetes deployments and related infrastructure.
- Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines.
- Manage source code, branches, pull requests, and releases using GitHub.
- Automate deployments, testing, monitoring, and operational processes.
- Collaborate with the team to translate requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Document customizations, deployments, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Ensure the OpenEMR environment remains secure, stable, maintainable, and up to date.
Required Experience
- Hands-on professional experience with OpenEMR.
- Strong software engineering and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience customizing or extending OpenEMR.
- Proficiency with PHP and relational databases (MySQL/MariaDB preferred).
- Experience with Microsoft Azure.
- Practical experience with Docker and containers.
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes.
- Experience creating or maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong experience with Git and GitHub.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience integrating OpenEMR with third-party healthcare applications or APIs.
- HL7/FHIR integration experience.
- Healthcare IT or EHR experience.
- Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions experience.
- Experience with Linux administration.
- Experience with automated testing and deployment.
- Experience with REST APIs and web services.
- Experience with security, backups, monitoring, and production healthcare systems.

Contractor Details
This is an independent contractor (1099) position. The contractor will be responsible for providing their own equipment and working independently. Compensation will be determined by experience, technical expertise, and scope of work.
