Your Mission

The Engineering Manager for the Screening & Risk Services team will lead the development and maintenance of Bitpanda's critical back-end risk infrastructure. This includes real-time transaction and user screening engines, compliance data pipelines, alerting and case-management tooling, and integrations with external sanctions/watchlist/identity-verification data providers.

This role requires blending technical oversight with strategic vision: defining the technical roadmap, enabling the team to build scalable, secure, high-throughput systems, and overseeing engineering delivery. You will collaborate closely with Compliance, Fraud/Risk Operations, Finance, and other internal stakeholders to ensure risk-detection logic is effective, up-to-date, and aligned with evolving regulatory requirements.

What You'll Do

• Define technical roadmaps and collaborate with a Product Manager to groom the backlog, factoring in technical debt and prioritizing impactful services.
• Lead, grow, and inspire the team to perform at the highest level and successfully deliver in a fast-paced environment.
• Facilitate daily scrum meetings, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives to ensure effective implementation and continuous improvement of agile practices.
• Work closely with other managers, stakeholders, and teams across the organization to ensure the microservices architecture aligns with broader company objectives.
• Conduct regular 1:1s with team members to develop career plans and goals, helping the team maintain resilience during periods of change and ambiguity.

Who You Are (Required Profile)

• Ability to effectively lead teams, provide guidance in ambiguous situations, influence technical discussions, and contribute to the development and future growth of software engineers.
• Experience in a technical leadership role demonstrating deep knowledge of digital product development and a strong understanding of software architecture, from experimentation through continuous improvement in an agile environment.
• Capability to perform regular performance reviews and derive new development goals or improvement strategies.
• Hands-on, self-driven personality who prefers involvement over observation.
• Experience touching upon financial services and eagerness to grow within this domain.

Bonus Qualifications

• Familiarity with Java/PHP.
• Experience with distributed/event-driven systems.
• Knowledge of message brokers such as Kafka.
• Experience with microservices architecture.
