Attractive
Application ends: 2026-11-14

Quick Summary

WAM is hiring a 100% remote mid-level Magento Backend Developer with 2–3 years of hands-on production experience in Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce. The role focuses on developing backend features, designing REST/GraphQL APIs, integrating third-party systems (ERP, CRM, payment gateways), writing PHPUnit tests, and debugging with Xdebug. Key requirements include PHP 8.x, object-oriented design, MySQL, performance tools (Varnish, Redis, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ), Docker, and intermediate English. The position offers a gross annual salary of €30K–€40K, optional offices in Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona, flexible scheduling, and intensive working hours.

If Magento 2 is an architecture you master rather than just a platform you configure, we need to talk.

eCommerce is in our DNA, and our Magento client portfolio keeps growing. That is why we are looking for a Magento Backend Developer to join WAM from wherever they choose: we work 100% remotely.

We are looking for a mid-level, highly hands-on profile with 2-3 years coding Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce in production, who already operates autonomously and wants to continue leveling up. You will not just be watching here: you will develop shoulder-to-shoulder with architects, frontend, QA, and project managers on real stores, with real traffic, and clients whose businesses depend on online sales.

What you will do (for real):

Development

  • Develop and maintain backend features in eCommerce projects on Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce.
  • Create and extend REST and GraphQL endpoints, and design custom features.
  • Implement integrations with external systems (ERP, CRM, payment gateways...).

Quality

  • Write unit and integration tests, and collaborate on joint testing with QA.
  • Comply with practice quality standards and review code with sound criteria.
  • Diagnose technical incidents using Xdebug and logs, identify the root cause, and propose solutions.

Team

  • Collaborate with frontend, QA, and project managers to make everything fit together.
  • Participate in technical requirement analysis alongside architects and project managers.
  • Document your developments in a clear and updated manner.
  • Lend a hand to junior profiles with their technical questions.

We grow with you, we take care of you:

  • Flexible schedule: Work-life balance.
  • 100% remote work, but if you feel like it at any point, we have offices available in Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona (yes, there is coffee and fruit too).
  • Salary band: €30K–€40K gross per year.
  • Day off on your birthday, as well as December 24 and 31.
  • Equality Plan.
  • Flexible compensation with Cobee.
  • Professional development plan.
  • Intensive working hours: Fridays until 3:00 PM; summer (06/22–09/11) and Christmas (12/21–01/08) from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Essential (if it does not fit your profile, this is not your role):

  • Between 2 and 3 years developing in Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce on real production projects.
  • Intermediate English: reading technical documentation, participating in technical meetings, and communicating in writing (tickets, PRs, Slack) with international teams or clients.
  • PHP 8.x, with strong command of object-oriented programming, common design patterns, and PSR standards.
  • Magento 2 architecture: dependency injection, plugins (interceptors), observers, preferences, service contracts and repositories, EAV model, declarative schema, data/schema patches, cron, and message queues.
  • Magento APIs: creating and extending REST and GraphQL endpoints.
  • MySQL: complex queries, basic optimization, and understanding the Magento data model.
  • Performance layer: Varnish, Redis, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, and RabbitMQ.
  • Automated testing with PHPUnit (unit and integration) and PHPCS with the Magento Coding Standard.
  • Composer, Git (branching workflow and pull requests), Magento CLI, and Docker environments (Warden or similar).
  • Debugging with Xdebug and log reading to diagnose issues autonomously.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Adobe Certified Professional / Expert – Adobe Commerce Developer certification.
  • Experience with Adobe Commerce Cloud or own infrastructure (AWS, DigitalOcean).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and zero-downtime deployments.
  • Knowledge of Hyvä frontend, sufficient to collaborate with the frontend team.
  • Experience in migrations from Magento 1 to Magento 2 or major version upgrades.
