Lead Full-Stack Engineer

We are seeking a Lead Full-Stack Engineer to join our distributed engineering team.

IDT/NRS builds a leading Point of Sale (POS) platform that powers tens of thousands of independent retail stores across the United States. We are now strategically expanding this robust platform into the restaurant technology sector.

Primary location: Minsk, Belarus (hybrid).

What You Will Own

• Architecture and delivery of new restaurant-facing services, encompassing data models, APIs, and merchant user interfaces.
• Development of merchant-facing restaurant surfaces, including kitchen display systems and all staff interaction points throughout the order lifecycle.
• Extending and hardening existing production services while ensuring system stability.
• Ensuring correctness under concurrency: managing transactional integrity, isolation levels, idempotency, race conditions, retries, and making pragmatic tradeoffs where perfect guarantees are not feasible.
• Designing for robust behavior when network connections drop, including offline-capable clients, local state management, sync on reconnect, and reconciling data during system splits.
• Implementing queueing, asynchronous processing, background jobs, and event-driven flows.
• Managing the safe rollout of releases that impact tens of thousands of users.
• Collaborating directly with product managers and designers to shape product development, moving beyond mere requirement implementation.
• Providing technical direction and conducting thorough code reviews for other engineers, including the critical judgment to identify and address design flaws.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building full-stack products, with significant time in a senior leadership role.
• Deep expertise in Node.js and TypeScript across the full stack, with a proven track record of designing and supporting production services.
• Profound understanding of REST API design and microservices architecture.
• Strong relational database skills (Postgres or MySQL), including schema design, indexing, query tuning, transactions, and performance optimization under load.
• Comfort with non-relational stores such as Redis or MongoDB, and experience with caching and invalidation strategies.
• Experience with queues and streaming technologies (e.g., Kinesis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, BullMQ), including an understanding of their failure modes (ordering, duplicates, replay, consumer lag).
• Front-end proficiency tailored to high-pressure restaurant environments:
  • Experience with Vue is preferred; experience with React or Angular is acceptable, provided it includes component architecture, state management, and progressive web apps (PWAs).
  • Real-time interfaces built on websockets, ideally socket.io, essential for order flow and kitchen display.
• Excellent debugging skills: ability to diagnose unfamiliar production failures and reason to root cause.
• Ability to work effectively with existing PHP platform components, leveraging AI tools for unfamiliar codebases.
• Experience deploying horizontally scalable services that tolerate instance failures, slow dependencies, and automatically adjust capacity.
• Proficiency in Linux, Git, and CI/CD workflows.
• Excellent written and spoken English for daily communication with teams in the United States and Israel, and for articulating technical decisions.
