We are seeking a Lead Full-Stack Engineer to join our distributed engineering team. IDT/NRS builds a Point of Sale platform that serves tens of thousands of independent retail stores across the United States, and we are now expanding this platform into restaurants.
This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on challenges involving scaling complex systems rather than just initial implementation.
Primary location: Minsk, Belarus (hybrid).
What you will own:
- Architecture and delivery of new restaurant-facing services, from data model to API and merchant-facing screens.
- The merchant-facing restaurant surfaces, including kitchen display and all staff interactions throughout an order's lifecycle.
- Extending and hardening existing production services without destabilizing them.
- Correctness under concurrency: ensuring transactional integrity, isolation levels, idempotency, handling race conditions, retries, and making honest tradeoffs where perfect guarantees are not available.
- Behavior when the connection drops: developing offline-capable clients, managing local state, implementing sync on reconnect, and reconciling data after system splits.
- Queueing and asynchronous processing, background jobs, and event-driven flows.
- Safe rollout of releases that reach tens of thousands of users.
- Working directly with product managers and designers to shape product development, not just implementing requirements.
- Technical direction and code review for other engineers, including the judgment to identify design flaws and ensure corrective action.
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience building full-stack products, including time as the senior person on projects.
- Deep Node.js and TypeScript experience across the full-stack, with production services designed and supported by you.
- Deep understanding of REST API design and microservices.
- Strong relational database skills (Postgres or MySQL): schema design, indexing, query tuning, transactions, and understanding performance under load.
- Comfort with non-relational stores such as Redis or MongoDB, and with caching and invalidation strategies.
- Experience with queues and streaming (Kinesis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, BullMQ, or similar), including understanding failure modes like ordering, duplicates, replay, and consumer lag.
- Front-end skill matching the environment:
- Experience with Vue (or React/Angular) including component architecture, state management, and progressive web apps, for interfaces used by restaurant staff during rushes.
- Real-time interfaces built on websockets, ideally socket.io, for order flow and kitchen display.
- Excellent debugging skills: ability to reason to root cause for unfamiliar production failures.
- Ability to work effectively with existing PHP platform code, utilizing AI.
- Experience deploying services that scale horizontally, tolerate failed instances or slow dependencies, and automatically adjust capacity.
- Comfortable on Linux, and fluent with Git and CI/CD workflows.
- Excellent written and spoken English for daily conversations with teams in the United States and Israel, and for explaining technical decisions.
