Lead Developer - WordPress Expert (Remote)

We are seeking an exceptional Lead Developer to drive the technical direction of BonusFinder.com's global platforms.

This role requires extensive WordPress expertise, strong leadership capability, and a proven track record of delivering high-performance, scalable platforms. You will lead a fully distributed development team.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

• Lead the technical vision, architecture, and long-term development strategy for BonusFinder.com's WordPress-based platforms.
• Define and enforce rigorous coding standards, development best practices, and scalable architectural patterns.
• Drive critical decision-making regarding tooling, frameworks, optimization, and new technical capabilities.
• Ensure all sites meet high standards for speed, security, stability, and crucial SEO performance.

WordPress Development

• Build, customize, and maintain advanced WordPress themes, plugins, and system integrations.
• Architect solutions specifically optimized for speed, Core Web Vitals, and handling large international traffic volumes.
• Optimize caching layers, Content Delivery Network (CDN) usage, and server performance for maximum site reliability.
• Oversee platform security, monitoring, and long-term technical health.

Remote-First Collaboration

• Champion effective communication and collaboration across international time zones.
• Ensure processes and documentation fully support asynchronous work and team autonomy.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams (SEO, content, product, design) utilizing remote-friendly tools and workflows.

SEO & Performance Focus

• Collaborate with SEO and content teams to implement structured data, schema markup, technical SEO improvements, and site architecture upgrades.
• Continuously monitor and optimize site speed, user experience (UX) signals, and infrastructure performance.
• Ensure the platform successfully supports BonusFinder's multi-market expansion and regulatory requirements.

Project Delivery

• Translate product and business goals into clear, actionable technical roadmaps.
• Plan sprints, accurately estimate development work, manage deadlines, and ensure smooth delivery of features and improvements.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and oversee long-term platform stability, scalability, and evolution.

Team Leadership

• Lead and mentor a fully distributed development team, providing essential guidance, feedback, and coaching.
• Conduct thorough code reviews and support the team in adopting best practices across all implementations.
• Foster a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement in a remote-first setting.

Requirements

Technical Expertise

• Extensive experience developing complex, high-performance WordPress websites.
• Strong proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, MySQL, REST APIs, Git, Composer, ACF, Gutenberg, and WP-CLI.
• Expertise in optimizing WordPress performance, caching strategies, hosting environments, and Core Web Vitals.
• Experience handling enterprise-level traffic and complex platform architectures.

Leadership & Remote Working

• Demonstrated success leading development teams in a remote-first or distributed environment.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills tailored for asynchronous collaboration.
• Experience managing multiple workstreams, timelines, and cross-functional relationships.
• A proactive, problem-solving approach with the ability to anticipate challenges and drive solutions.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience in the iGaming, sports betting, or affiliate marketing industries.
• Experience with cloud hosting providers (AWS, Cloudflare), WP Engine, Kinsta, or equivalent platforms.
• Knowledge of localization, multi-site architectures, and global SEO strategies.
• Background in analytics, tracking implementation, or Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO).
