Freelance WordPress Web Developer & Designer (Remote, As-Needed)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Web Developer/Designer specializing in WordPress. This role involves designing our website and performing maintenance and updates on an as-needed basis (PRN). The ideal candidate must possess a strong portfolio, creativity, and expertise in building complex WordPress websites, including components like a multi-author blog with author login portals and an online shop.

Hourly Pay: $18–30, subject to negotiation.

Requirement: Must provide a portfolio of active WordPress websites.

Schedule: PRN, As-Needed; Independent Contractor for our Startup Venture.

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, customize, and optimize WordPress themes and plugins to meet specifications.
  • Design engaging, user-friendly web interfaces utilizing HTML, CSS, SCSS, JavaScript, and UI/UX best practices.
  • Implement responsive web design principles for compatibility across devices and browsers.
  • Integrate third-party APIs such as RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and SOAP for enhanced website functionality.
  • Manage database interactions using MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, SQLite, or other database systems.
  • Utilize version control systems like GitHub and SVN for code management and collaboration.
  • Set up and maintain development environments using Docker, Ansible, AWS, Azure, or similar tools.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins or similar tools to streamline deployment processes.
  • Conduct unit testing and debugging to ensure high-quality code performance.
  • Collaborate with designers using wireframing tools and project management platforms like Trello or Jira.
  • Optimize websites for SEO and performance metrics such as load speed and data visualization.
  • Develop custom web applications using frameworks like React, Angular, Vue.js, Django, Ruby on Rails, ASP.NET, or Node.js.
  • Ensure security best practices are followed during development to protect against vulnerabilities.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in WordPress development with a strong portfolio of live projects.
  • Proficiency in front-end technologies including HTML5, CSS3 (SCSS), JavaScript (TypeScript), jQuery, Bootstrap, React, and Angular.
  • Solid understanding of back-end development using PHP, Python, C#, Java, Ruby on Rails or similar frameworks.
  • Experience working with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MongoDB; familiarity with data visualization is a plus.
  • Knowledge of system architecture principles and application development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices including Docker containers, Ansible automation, and Jenkins CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure for deployment and hosting solutions.
  • Strong understanding of web services including RESTful APIs and GraphQL integrations.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and responsive web design techniques for optimal user experience (UX).
  • Ability to work independently on freelance projects while managing multiple deadlines effectively.
