The Opportunity: ESA Web Development

Join our client’s international technical team as an ESA Full-Stack Web Developer. You will contribute to the development and maintenance of critical web applications supporting major European space programs, specifically within the Earth Observation ecosystem.

Our client is a long-standing partner of space institutions, delivering solutions for scientific data platforms and operational digital environments. This role requires working onsite at ESA-ESRIN in Frascati (Rome), collaborating with scientific and technical experts on both evolutionary development and corrective maintenance of ESA’s web platforms.

We seek a motivated developer with strong foundations in PHP and SQL, eager to thrive in a technical, scientific, and multicultural environment. A B2 level of English proficiency is mandatory for daily interaction with ESA teams and international stakeholders.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

You will focus on web applications and digital tools supporting ESA’s Earth Observation initiatives:

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance web applications crucial for European space programs.
  • Utilize PHP, WordPress, and related technologies used across ESA platforms. Familiarity with Laravel is a strong plus.
  • Implement new features and improvements in collaboration with scientific and technical teams.
  • Perform full-stack debugging, bug fixing, and issue analysis.
  • Manage web content, service components, and modules.
  • Write, optimize, and debug SQL queries, stored logic, and data workflows.
  • Ensure strict compliance with ESA technical requirements, security constraints, and documentation procedures.
  • Participate actively in technical discussions, requirement reviews, and internal coordination meetings.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation adhering to ESA standards.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of PHP (Mandatory).
  • Strong knowledge of SQL (Mandatory).
  • Experience with web frameworks; familiarity with Laravel is highly beneficial.
  • Experience using WordPress or similar CMS tools within the ESA environment.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for front-end adjustments.
  • Proven ability to handle maintenance, bug fixing, and feature evolution in a full-stack context.
  • Understanding of web architectures, APIs, and integration workflows.
  • Ability to adhere to technical specifications, compliance guidelines, and structured change processes.
  • Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and proactive work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, international, scientific setting.
  • Approximately 1–3+ years of experience in web development (flexible based on potential).
