About Us
Hakili Community for Sustainable Development is a nonprofit organization committed to expanding access to coding and AI ethics education for youth from underrepresented communities. This summer, we're building sustainable infrastructure to bring quality coding education to schools and community programs across Ontario and Quebec.
About the Role
We're hiring two WordPress developers to rebuild Hakili's website as a professional platform for delivering and selling youth coding education curriculum. Working collaboratively with our UX designer, you'll create a modern, accessible website with e-commerce functionality, educator resource portals, and content management systems that enable youth to access quality coding education at scale.
What You'll Do
- Rebuild Hakili and YesWeCode website on WordPress platform
- Implement responsive design based on UX designer's specifications
- Develop custom themes and customize existing themes
- Build and configure plugins for required functionality
- Create curriculum sales/e-commerce platform (WooCommerce or similar)
- Develop parent and educator resource portals with gated content
- Ensure WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility compliance
- Optimize site performance, loading speed, and SEO
- Create technical documentation and user guides for website maintenance
- Provide training to Hakili staff on website updates
Who You Are
- A youth applicant eligible for Canada Summer Jobs (age 15-30)
- Strong WordPress development experience (portfolio required)
- Proficient in PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Familiar with WooCommerce or other e-commerce platforms
- Experience with responsive and mobile-first design
- Git/version control experience
- Strong problem-solving and attention to detail
- Bilingual English/French is an asset
