About the Role: Backend Engineer (PHP / Laravel)
We are seeking a skilled Backend Engineer with strong experience in PHP and Laravel to design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable server-side applications. This role is crucial for ensuring system performance, stability, and long-term maintainability within a growing digital health ecosystem.
You will take ownership of backend services and APIs, troubleshoot complex production issues, optimize database performance, and contribute to architectural decisions. Working in a remote-first, fast-paced environment, you will collaborate closely with frontend developers, product managers, QA engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality software efficiently.
This position is ideal for a mid-level engineer who is detail-oriented, enjoys solving challenging technical problems, and thrives in collaborative environments while maintaining strong autonomy.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 3+ years of professional experience with PHP and Laravel.
- Solid knowledge of SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred).
- Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs.
- Ability to write automated API tests.
- Experience with Git and collaborative workflows (GitHub).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with Docker.
- Familiarity with AWS or other cloud environments.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., Rollbar, CloudWatch).
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in healthcare or telehealth environments.
- Experience optimizing legacy systems.
- Exposure to scalable distributed architectures.
- Familiarity with performance monitoring and observability best practices.
