About the Role: Backend Engineer (PHP / Laravel)
We are seeking a skilled Backend Engineer with strong expertise in PHP and Laravel to design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable server-side applications. This role is crucial for ensuring system performance, stability, and long-term maintainability within our expanding digital health ecosystem.
You will own backend services and APIs, troubleshoot complex production issues, optimize database performance, and contribute to architectural decisions. In our remote-first, fast-paced environment, you'll collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, QA engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality software efficiently.
This mid-level engineering position suits detail-oriented professionals who enjoy solving challenging technical problems and thrive in collaborative yet autonomous environments.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of professional experience with PHP and Laravel
- Solid knowledge of SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs
- Ability to write automated API tests
- Experience with Git and collaborative workflows (GitHub)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with Docker
- Familiarity with AWS or other cloud environments
- Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., Rollbar, CloudWatch)
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
