Responsibilities of a Cloud Security Engineer

As a cloud security engineer, you are a builder. Your primary goal is to make the secure way the easy way. This involves automating security checks within CI/CD pipelines, writing Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform) to deploy secure-by-default environments, and implementing and managing advanced security tools like Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) and intrusion detection systems. You are also often part of the incident response team, investigating and mitigating security threats.

Key Engineering Skills and Technologies

This is a deeply technical role that requires strong coding and automation skills. Core competencies include:

• Expertise in scripting security automation using languages like Python or Go.
• Deep, practical knowledge of IAM, network security, and encryption.
• Hands-on experience implementing and managing security services like AWS Shield, AWS WAF, or Azure Sentinel.
• Proficiency in container security practices, including scanning Docker images for vulnerabilities.
